Green cloth, white lettering on front cover, 12mo, vii, 110 pp. Series of stories about bears, and the people who hunted them, in the Sauk County area of Wisconsin during the early days of settlement in the nineteenth century. Cole (1861-1928) was founder and editor of the Baraboo Daily News and president of the Sauk County Historical Society. He was instrumental in the preservation of the stories of early pioneers of the area, which includes Wisconsin Dells, and also preserved views of many of the early buildings through his photographs. Book has a Christmas sticker and inscription, dated Dec. 25, 1915, on the ffep. No marks in book, binding tight. The first few pages show very light moisture stains to outside margins. Covers show some white stains, especially rear cover. Book condition VG-. Uncommon.
