Description:
Very little wear. One minor crease on the back cover, spine square and uncreased. Pages clean, tight and unmarked, except for the owner's name on the title page. The author's account of sharing living space with a pet porcupine and other assorted critters. Published almost a decade after the author's death. The cover informs that this is Volume 1 of the Living Forest Series. Looks like there were twelve in total, all written about the author's experiences on a wooded island in Northern Wisconsin. This volume appears to be rather rare today.

Trade paperback. A few chips and rubs on the cover, spine uncreased. One of my favorite essayists on biology and science in general. When I first came across this book, is was shelved with music books, but Mahler is just background noise to the wonderful ideas and observations contained within these essays. 168 clean, bright, intact pages.

Description:
This book shows minor wear, the dust jacket somewhat more. The cover has light blue fabric covered boards with gilt print on the spine. Gentle wear along the top and bottom edges and little else. The price clipped dust jacket has small tears along the upper and lower edges, none much over a cm, and some discoloration from age. The pages are filled with photos and sketches, many being of the true hero of the story, the author's pet otter. This is an accounting of the time spent at a remote cabin by the author and otter, and their interactions with nature and local wildlife. Endpapers decorated with more otter sketches. Not a rare book, but not common, either.

Description:
No dust jacket. A former library book, where the spine was once repaired with librarian's tape, as can be seen in photo #2. The only date on the copyright page is of the original Scribner edition, as is common with Grosset & Dunlap books of that era. A pencil notation on the dedication page gives the date of 6/6/1924, which is probably close to the actual publication date. This book consists of eight short stories giving fictionalized accounts of the lives of different animals the author once knew. The red fabric covering the boards is well worn, with the boards showing through at all the corners and half the edges. The librarian added fabric tape at the hinges of the endpapers, front and rear, which is holding the binding quite secure. The pages are tight and unmarked, with page 19-20 repaired by some quite old tape (still secure). Soiling to a few of the pages. Illustrated with 200 drawings by the author, once the Naturalist to the Government of Manitoba. This book is rather rare and seems suitable…
