Some light offsetting at the top portion, tiny stain at the bottom edge, a couple of short closed tears, very good+.Very scarce poster documenting an event held at The Living Theatre (and curated by Cinema 16) showcasing short films by twenty-one avant-garde filmmakers. A seminal event, held just as the phenomenon of what was later to be called underground cinema was beginning to emerge.Featured at the screening were works by both American and foreign directors, including Georges Franju, Malcolm McClaren, Agnes Varda, La Monte Young, Stan Brakhage, Jack Smith, Willard Maas, James Broughton, and many others.

Creased in places, VERY GOOD+. AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', a show based on the songs of Fats Waller, had a very successful run from 1978 to 1982. This revival, which incorporated the original Broadway cast of that first run, occurred between August 15, 1988 and January 15, 1989.

Record store poster for the 1986 Warner Brothers album L IS FOR LOVER. Al Jarreau, who started as a jazz singer, was in time considered one of the preeminent exponents of the Los Angeles pop and R&B sound.

On linen, very good.Hedy Lamarr made her American film debut in this famous classic romantic melodrama. She had made five films in Europe between 1930 and 1933, the last the notorious ECSTASE, which caused such a scandal that she did not make another film for 5 years. She was contracted by MGM, but Louis B. Mayer loaned her to Wanger for her first American film. It was one of her best and her pairing with Charles Boyer as the notorious jewel thief Pepe le Moko has become legendary and inspired many imitations and caricatures. No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 40 x 27 3/4" (102 x71 cm.) one sheet poster, Portugal. Antonio Sequeira Lopes, Cristina Hauser, Elsa Wallenkamp, dir: Manoel de Oliveira. With only one single horizontal fold at center, JUST ABOUT FINE. Extremely scarce original Portuguese poster for one of the Portuguese modernist film classics of Oliveira, adapted from a play of the same name by Camilo Castelo Branco. Oliveira is one of the great filmmakers of the 1970s and onwards, and the original posters from Portugal never appear on the market.

La MaMa. No binding. Fine. Anaïs Nin (source), Tom O'Horgan (director) [New York]: La MaMa, (ca. mid- 1960s), Vintage original 22 x 14" (56 x36 cm.) poster, unfolded, fine. Early in his career, Tom O'Horgan directed many plays for the La MaMa theater off-off Broadway. He began working there in 1964 and, by 1967, he had directed HAIR off-Broadway, which quickly moved to Broadway to great success, so we can safely date this poster from between 1964 and 1967. Victor Lipari is co-credited with O'Horgan on the poster. He was a member of the original LaMama Repertory Company and appeared regularly as an actor in their early productions. La MaMa posters of the 1960s are quite scarce.

Motif Editions. No binding. Fine. Andy Warhol (producer) [London]: Motif Editions, 1970. Vintage original 30 x 20" (76 x 51 cm.) British poster. Unfolded, fine. Andy Warhol's massive 3 1/2-hour film Chelsea Girls was meant to be presented on two screens with only one of the two available soundtracks being played (the projectionist could choose which two soundtracks to use). The film had some kind of truncated showing in London soon after the New York premiere in 1966.In 1968 it received its first intact screenings in London, with the two screens simultaneously showing the different reels of film as intended. For that four-day event, pop illustrator Alan Aldridge created this poster for the London Arts Laboratory. The young woman in it is Chare Shentsone, 16, a budding artist who later became close to Francis Bacon. There was an edition of this poster printed in 1968 to be posted outdoors over London. Greta Garbo, Fredric March, Freddie Bartholomew, Maureen O'Sullivan, May Robson, Basil Rathbone, Reginald Owen, dir: Clarence Brown: MGM. Unrestored poster has some minor stains, chips, and tack holes, but colors are bright, and poster is overall very pleasing to look at, near fine.Based on Tolstoy's novel, Greta Garbo's favorite writer Salka Viertel adapted the book along with S.N. Behrman and Clemence Dane, for what many feel is the definitive film version. Anna must come to terms with the social repercussions when she allows herself to fall in love while married and with a child.
Technical aspects of this film were far advanced and Garbo's understated performance earned her the New York Film Critics Award for Best Actress. Cedric Gibbons designed the impeccable period sets. Child actor Freddie Bartholomew was prominently billed on this poster.

Promoted by MGM as the first 3-D Western, this poster, appropriately, has the expected ""coming at you out of the screen"" graphics. Folded, no pinholes, there is a bit of fold wear at upper fold, and a tiny tear in top blank margin, overall NEAR FINE.

Vintage original 22 x 14" (56 x 36 cm.) window card poster, one marginal tear neatly mended with archival paper, VERY GOOD+. "As Is portrays the effect that AIDS, a relatively new epidemic in the 1980s, has on a group of friends living in New York City. It was one of the first plays, and subsequent television films, depicting how the epidemic was affecting gay Americans. As Is opened shortly before Larry Kramer's play about AIDS, The Normal Heart, was first performed on April 21, 1985. "This play depicts a gay couple, Saul and Rich, who open the play, and their separation. Rich's firm decision to separate is reversed when he returns to Saul after contracting AIDS from his new lover. Seeking emotional support, Rich shows how people with AIDS were treated by the American family, doctors, and friends. Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe, Marilyn Monroe, dir: John Huston, MGM. Classic film noir about a heist which, after being successfully executed, unravels with tragic consequences. Though John Huston intended the role of Angela Phinlay for Lola Albright, Marilyn Monroe won the role and it was the first in which her great dramatic abilities were explored. Poster features Monroe prominently, thanks to agent Johnny Hyde's work in placing her there amongst the films MGM contract players. Poster is paper-backed. There are creases at all four corners. A few small inter tears have been addressed in the lower left side photo area. There was a long horizontal crease or tear from the mid left side to the mid-point of the poster which has been addressed. Corner pinholes addressed. Displays beautifully, VERY GOOD-FINE.

Center Theatre Group. No binding. Fine. Los Angeles: Center Theatre Group, [1992]. Vintage original 22 x 14" (56 x 36 cm.) window card poster, fine. TWO TRAINS RUNNING is August Wilson's play from his ten-part series THE PITTSBURGH CYCLE. Each of his plays takes place in a different decade of the past century, and this play is set in 1968. The play had its world premiere at the Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven in 1990. A few regional productions of it followed, including this one in Los Angeles, which was directed by Lloyd Richards, and who was responsible for helming many of Wilson's plays on Broadway. This production, which ran from January 16 through March 29, 1992, was immediately followed by the Broadway premiere, also directed by Richards, which occurred on April 13, 1992. The only play in Wilson's Century Cycle not set in Pittsburgh, focuses on a Chicago recording session of blues artist Rainey. There exist two different versions of this poster, one printed in red, and this one, printed in black. They were both printed simultaneously.

Artwork by Serino Coyne for this August Wilson play, set in Memphis Lee's restaurant in the Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1969. The opening night cast for the play's Broadway debut included Roscoe Lee Browne and Lawrence Fishburne.

Blackglama. No binding. Just About Fine. [New York]: Blackglama, [ca. 1975]. Vintage original 22 x 17" (56 x 43 cm.) poster, unfolded, just about fine. Beginning in 1968 and continuing for over a decade, the Blackglama Company, which manufactured high end mink coats, created a series of posters of legendary stars wearing their coats. Rogers, What Becomes a Legend most? The Blackglama Story, pp. 18-19: This iconic image of Streisand was shot by Richard Avedon.

No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 15"" (29 x 38 cm.) double weight matte finish hand colored poster, promotion for Warner Brothers Pictures, France. Davis at the height of her star power presents herself with trademark cigarette and plenty of attitude in this unusual piece. Davis won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1935 and 1938 and would be nominated in 1939, 1940, 1941 and 1942, as well as for five other years. This is one of an extremely rare group of small posters done in France for Warner Brothers stars in the late-1930s, NEAR FINE.

Fields, Martha Raye, Dorothy Lamour, Shirley Ross, Bob Hope, Lynne Overman, Ben Blue, dir: Mitchell Leisen; Paramount. One of the finest and best remembered of the 1930s musicals, if for no other reason than the introduction, by Ross and Hope (his first feature role), of the classic song ""Thanks for the Memory"" (it won the Academy Award). Martha Raye, who did her own stunts in a raucously entertaining number, was ingeniously cast as W. C. Fields' daughter (in his last film for Paramount). Everyone shone in their musical moments in a story which concerned a race between two ocean liners, from which the new S.S. Gigantic had a big radio broadcast emitting (you see, the turbine engine worked on radio waves is the explanation!). Outstanding portraiture highlights this presentation for the story about a songstress who becomes a radio star and finds it necessary to disguise her identity because of her criminal husband. She becomes known as the personality ""The Masked Countess"". The sixty-six-minute B-musical features songs by Sidney Claire and Harry Akst, writers of many popular songs of the 1930s. On linen, there are some small stains and dings, mostly in blank areas, VERY GOOD-FINE.
