The original price of $3.00 is still present on the front flap. DJ shows spotting and scuffing along with edge chips and small tears. The underside of jacket was neatly reinforced with masking tape along the top and bottom, over the decades the tape is become dry and brittle and can easily be detached just by flexing the paper (the bottom piece already came off). The dry tape glue residue still remains on the underside of the jacket though. Red cloth boards underneath the clean and corner sharp. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or personal bookplates, no handwriting, no remainder marks, nothing torn or loose. New York: A Richard Seaver Book / The Viking Press, 1977. Uncorrected Proof / Advance Reading Copy . Soft cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Softcover, this is the unrevised proof, marked confidential on the front cover, and was sent out for correction purposes. Interior pages are hand numbered and the reviewer was supposed to mark any errors and then send it back to The Viking Press before the book was actually published in March 1977. It appears the book receive damage at the postal center and was later sold at auction, as you can see by the stamping inside the front cover. The front wrap has diagonal creases in the lower right in the rear cover has a lot dark smudge marks and a vertical crease. Internal binding is good and tight. The front page which shows the publishers letter is attached to the second front end page by glue. The remaining pages are in good shape with no markings other than the hand numbering of the pages. Large softcover, marked as a first edition on the copyright page and also an "advance copy, printed from uncorrected proofs" is printed on the half title page. The rear inside cover states and upcoming publication date of September 5, 1940 with a retail price of $2.50. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The back cover has numerous light scratch marks. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The end pages inside covers show a lot of spotting and soiling and there is a faint penciled price that was written in the corner and then later erased. No other markings found in the book, no bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The book is a bit grubby and worn but is in good shape for reading purposes.

The first free end page is slightly shorter than the remaining pages and the first has a stain at the top. There are several other pages of various height as well. Pages are printed on just one side, allowing for corrections to be made if needed. Several pages also have test patterns outside of the text area.
