Description:
New York: H. Long & Brother, 1851. Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, this appears to be the earliest US edition of this title that we found any reference to. There is no publication date in the book (ca. 1851), although there is a penciled note on the last page stating that it was read in March of 1866. In addition, we found an advertisement listed in the August 23, 1851 edition of The Literary World (number 238, page 155) which shows a reference to the Long & Brother's Edition. The exterior of the book is heavily worn with the paper boards showing extensive scuffing and edge wear, cloth on spine is split at the rear board and heavy chipping is present. On the interior front pastedown there is a note stating it was part of the St. Mary's library, and the rear pastedown contains a penciled signature of the original owner. The opposite rear end page shows damage in the upper outside corner along with some penciled…

Description:
New York: George W. Harlin, 1881. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Softcover, original 1881 publication with exterior wraps still clean and binding tight like the book was never read. Unfortunately, the binding is also brittle as are the pages themselves. Exterior does shows some chipping along the top and bottom spine areas and there is also chipping on the first and last pages, many along the long edge. Pages are darkened due to age and poor quality of paper used. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, and the only handwriting found is on the title page where you can just barely see where an old price was once penciled below the word "Wife" in the title. No other handwriting found. This copy would normally grade as near fine to fine condition, but it was lowered because of the chipping on the pages and back cover.
