Co. in Brooklyn, the advantages of the "different from the usual prepared cocoanut," and various recipes for savory and sweet dishes, including "Cocoanut Cheese Pies," "Cocoanut Peach Custard," "Cocoanut Doughnuts," etc.

Signed by author to front cover verso. An Iowa photographer and author, Joan Liffring-Zug based the title of her work on the painting "American Gothic" by artist Grant Wood. The recipes in the book were collected from the couple who had posed for the original painting, the artist himself, etc.

(ca 1963); 8 1/2 x 5 1/2; pp. 48; illustrated blue wraps; some age-toning and a few small spots along margins; illustrated with a photograph frontis; very good.An uncommon cookbook, published during West Virginia's centennial celebrations, it claims that every recipe is at least a 100 years old with as many of them also including a brief history of the recipe. It is dedicated to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and features an interesting array of entrees, salads, and desserts.

(ca 1977); 6 3/4 x 3 3/4; 3-fold pamphlet; yellow stock printed in dark blue; illustrated front wrap; very minor wear, near fine or better condition.An interesting ephemeral item, the pamphlet advertised and encouraged people to submit recipes for the Georgia State Cook-off. Of the four recipes featured, one was Mrs. Rosalynn Carter's Chicken Supreme and another was the 1976 winner of the cook-off Mrs. Anne Belle's Pollo Pane.

In 1847 a prominent lady had walked into the office of of Joseph Burnett, then chemist. She was anxious to be able to use vanilla flavoring for her desserts and she asked him if he could help her as the only way known at the time was the messy and unsatisfactory business of cutting vanilla beans, wrapping them in linen, and dunking them like tea bags into whatever dessert mix required flavoring. The Floral Department of the church was organized in 1911 with the initial purpose of regularly decorating the First Congregational for regular and Sunday services. It would later branch out to helping the Red Cross, contribute to war funds, and take care of children.

London: OXO Limited, 1920. Softcover. First edition presumed, n. d. (ca 1920); 7 x 4 3/4; pp. 16; illustrated stiff wraps; a small spot and minor age-toning to margins; mild wear to edges; brown and beige in-line illustrations; very good condition.Possibly one of the earliest OXO cooking booklets, it contained recipes by various women that had been mailed to the company as an expression of the cooks' great satisfaction in using OXO cubes in their cooking and included such delightful concoctions such as OXO Blanc Mange, OXO Devilled Bananas, and OXO Jambon Savory. The OXO beaf stock cubes were first introduced in 1910 as a cheaper version to the original product, which had been a viscous liquid containing only meat extract and 4% salt. Presumably, the brand name OXO was derived from "ox." The OXO products, greatly expanded from those early days, are still very popular to this day.

Terre Haute, IN: Kehoe Preserving Co., 1922. Softcover. First edition, title from front wrap: "Rose Apple and Wild Wing Salads;" 6 x 3 1/2; pp. [1], 2-15; chromolithographed wraps, ruled in gilt; very mild age-toning and wear to edges; very good to near fine condition.Betty Lyles Wilson - a famous Tennessee baker, chef, and educator - together with her daughter Mary, wrote the current "little book" in collaboration with the Kehoe Preserving Company, the latter describing and advertising on the verso of the front and back wraps their Rose Apple, a new breed of sweet red pepper developed by Mrs. Anna Adams Kehoe, and their Wild Wing Pimento Sauce. The featured recipes encompassed each month, as well as miscellaneous salads for the entire year, and included Valentine Salad, Patriotic Salad, and Pear and Pimento Salad.

First edition, fold-out pamphlet, 5 x 18; pp. 8; small spot to front and a faint crease to lower corner of last leaf, else minor wear; illustrated; near fine condition.An advertisement and cookbook combined, the pamphlet extolled the benefits of making sauces and toppings with beat sugar, listed the nine famous brands of that sugar at the time, and supplied recipes, such as Mocha Sundae Sauce, Red Raspberry Sauce, and Orange Sweet Potato Sauce. Also featured were several interesting facts about sugar including the interesting statement that it was a fact consuming sugar was very important for staying on a diet.
