Dust jacket condition: MISSING dust jacket. A scarce signed copy of Heggen's comic-tragic classic novel of life on a WWII Pacific Ocean cargo ship, where the heroic Lt. Roberts tries to keep the ship & it's crew together. Heggen wrote the Broadway play which won Henry Fonda a Tony Award as best actor, a role he reprised later on in the 1955 movie. TONY AWARD WINNER - BEST PLAY 1948 SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY SOME OF THE BROADWAY CAST TO HARVEY LEMBECK (original cast member), who played Insigna from February 18, 1948-January 6, 1951, in 1157 performances, at the Alvin Theatre. Signatures and inscriptions to Harvey Lembeck includes Ralph Meeker's who played Mannion. Meeker won The Theater World Award for his role in Mister Roberts in 1948.
