Reference Encyclopedia Of The American Indian, 11th Edition by Klein, Barry T

Millwood, New York: Todd Publications. Very Good. 2004. Eleventh Edition. Soft Cover. 0915344777 . 005426: Scarce, Out Of Print, Book. Copy's covers and pages are bright, clean, tightly bound and sharp cornered. It does have Library stamp inside, label on spine, some dark marks on covers under plastic covering and title page has been neatly removed. Editorial Review by From Library Journal: "Klein's editions of the Reference Encyclopedia have been the major source for listings of information on American Indian and Alaska Native groups for more than a decade. The first section of the book contains the source listings, presenting names, addresses, and often leaders of the tribal organizations (both federal and other) across the United States. The resource provides similar information for Canada. The second section is the bibliography, which contains citations for 4500 in-print titles. Separate lists by subject follow, and there is also a listing of publishers of Indian titles. The Directory has an excellent index, but does not include biographical information. Biennial editions are planned. Surprisingly, these two reference titles do not always list the same organizations and programs in similar categories. Tribal entries tend to be similar, though the exclusion of nonfederally recognized groups is a serious omission in the directory. While Klein's encyclopedia entries in other areas have been gleaned from years of compilation, the Directory has extracted information from a variety of existing reference publications, as well as some original research. Putting this information in one place is certainly a contribution, though the compilers need to dig further to include organizations neglected by major reference sources. Because of the disparity of the information included in these publications, libraries with serious collections on Native Americans will want both. ": Ex-Library: 8.25 x 10.75 in.: 777 pages .

John L. Stoddard's Lectures by John L. Stoddard

Fine. Fifteen volumes complete in matching bindings. 1897-1909. Minimal wear, far less than age would suggest. No markings of any type in the interior of any volume. Deluxe half leather, marbled boards, decorative endpapers, high quality paper without foxing. Must have been quite expensive to produce and purchase. Originally intended to have ten volumes. Five extra volumes produced and included here. I confess I am unclear on what constitutes a true first edition in this set. I believe the earlier copyrights refer to magazine articles and some stand alone books he wrote while creating this set. Copyrights range from 1897 to 1909. Dates on title pages range from 1905 to 1909. First edition guide McBride says "No Additional Printings" for Shuman; and does not cover Balch. Zempel does not cover either publisher. Books are 9 x 6.5 inches and weigh a little over 30 pounds. Presentation quality matching set. Feel free to inquire. Please see scans of the books you will receive.

The Treasurie of Auncient and Moderne Times, Containing the learned Collections, Iudicious Readings, and Memorable Observations: Not only Divine, Morall, and Philosophicall: but also, Politicall, Martiall, Historicall, Astrologicall, &c. Translated out of that worthy Spanish Gentleman, Pedro Mexio. And M. Francesco Sansouino, that famous Italian. As also of those Honourable Frenchmen, Anthonie de Verdier, Lord of Vaupriuaz: Loys Guyon, Sieur de la Nauche, Counsellor unto the King: Claudius Gruget, Parisian, &c by Thomas Milles

William Jaggard, 1613 A very rare and strange book. This volume was published as a complete book in 1613; a second volume was added later in 1619. it is well titled 'a treasurie' - being a collection of stories, histories, facts and beliefs jumbled together in no discernable order. It is in 9 'bookes' each divided into chapters. As an example booke 4 moves smoothly from the Kingdome of Persia in chapter 1 to 'In defence of the Gaules' in chapter 2, to 'Of the Switzers Cantones' in chapter 3. There are fascinating snippets for example, about Orders of Knights and the nature of 'Dreames'. The book has been rebound in a full leather binding with raised bands, and gilt decoration and titles. It has numerous woodcuts as headers and as decoration to initial letters in chapters. The title page and preliminaries are missing and there is also some loss from the index at the rear which ends with the contents of the 4th booke. There is a dedication to 'virtuous Lord Anne D'Urfe' and a table of the Authors Names. Both of these have some loss and have had paper repairs. The first booke has 'Alex Beedie, his book' written in ink across the top margin. Generally the contents are sound and clean apart from the odd brown stain and browning to page edges. A few pages are frayed at the edges - including pages 405-408 and 961 onwards. 963 has small loss of text and the first index page has loss affecting part of the text. There is an ink inscription to the back of page 965.
