Includes the final chapter not included in earlier editions, "Recipes for Plain Cooking". In the original embossed brown cloth with gilt embossing on the spine. Binding has minor wear at the top and bottom of the spine and a 2" crack at the rear hinge. Interior of the book has scattered foxing, but is very solid and otherwise clean.

Binding has light scuffs, but is solid and bright with red fox head on front cover and on spine. Front free end paper and front paste down have a gift inscription dated Dec. 25th 1880 and a contemporary seller stamp and owner number. A very scarce Alger title.
