Large 4to (300 × 240 mm), pp. [12], 173, [1], plus 21 tipped-in colour plates, top edge gilt, remainder uncut, original gilt-decorated vellum. Published by Hodder & Stoughton (London), 1911.
Original vellum a little rubbed and lightly marked, browning to the endpapers as usual, wanting ties. A very good copy.
Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale "travelled often to the continent and was clearly influenced by the fifteenth- and early sixteenth-century art which she saw on visits to Italy. There were further exhibitions of her works at Leighton House in 1904, with a catalogue containing appreciative remarks by George Frederic Watts, and at Dowdeswell's in 1905 and 1909. She continued her illustrative work, which from about 1905 consisted of both line drawings and watercolours made for reproduction as half-tone colour plates. In 1911 two editions of Tennyson's Idylls of the King (de luxe and popular)… Read More

A very handsome set. Near Fine.

A little spotting to the title page and frontispieces of three volumes, a small page tear (not affecting any text) expertly and discreetly repaired by the bindery of George Bayntun, to the bottom of pp. 369 of Volume II of Cabinets of William IV. and Victoria.

These volumes have a notable provenance containing the engraved bookplates of Sir William Eden Bart (4 April 1849 – 20 February 1915), a… Read More

A Limited Edition, numbered 266 of 514 total copies, signed by the Author. Thick 4to, several plates and illustrations in the text, hand–coloured initials. Bound in the Publisher's half vellum gilt, uncut, decorative spine labels, decorative endpapers. Published in Madrid for the Author, 1920.

This work is one of the finest productions on Spanish naval architecture and shipbuilding from the 16th to 18th century, and particularly documents the architecture of the old Spanish wooden battleships and galleons. It was following a series of conferences held at the Ateneo de Madrid in May 1914 that this work came to be published (Palau 1, 521.)
