Alexander Fleming was a Scottish bacteriologist (1881–1955) who shared the 1945 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his role in the discovery and isolation of penicillin. Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale "travelled often to the continent and was clearly influenced by the fifteenth- and early sixteenth-century art which she saw on visits to Italy. The corners of the binding a little rubbed, the hinges reinforced, clean internally. A very good copy.
This work is one of the finest productions on Spanish naval architecture and shipbuilding from the 16th to 18th century, and particularly documents the architecture of the old Spanish wooden battleships and galleons. It was following a series of conferences held at the Ateneo de Madrid in May 1914 that this work came to be published (Palau 1, 521.)
