The cover of this attractive and scarce dinner menu is illustrated with a print of Adams' photograph titled, "Winter Sports in Yosemite," A full explanation of the image is printed on the back cover where Adams has signed in full, "Ansel Adams." To the right of the signature, the front image is explained, "El Capitan, Merced River, Yosemite National Park California From a Photograph by Ansel Adams." Ansel Adams Archive. Three Typed Letters Signed, 1957 and 1968. Adams refers to photographers Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Stiechen and his Family of Man exhibit at MOMA in the second letter and Stieglitz. Edward Weston, Minor White and himself in the third letter. He gives advice on a film developing process in the first and second letters. Each letter is on different personalized printed address stationery and all are addressed to Steurat Oring who was photography student at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) at the time. April 11, 1957, San Francisco, 1 page, 4to. "Now, about your Pyrocatechin Project...I do not have any Zone-system data on this developer which could be of use... especially with the modern films. It is a 'tanning' developer and you might have serious trouble with it used on the new thin-emulsion films...." Aiken composed a charming Christmas poem which opens with an appealing sketch of a mouse's face. "The Mouse upon the Christmas day/Bends his little knees to pray/ O dear Jesus/ Please to cheese us/That is all I have to say." He signs with his initials, "CA," and adds at the top of the folded card stock, "With love from C [he draws a face in the C] and M [and draws eyes and mouth within the letter] to Maurice and Betty." 1-A sketchbook of 119 drawings mainly of people but also several circus animals, dated "28 Feb. 46, Los Angeles. " Many of the sketches show men in military uniform, one at the USO in Union Station, people outdoors dressed in coats, one woman on strike, others indoors, sleeping in chairs, ironing, waiting around, several musicians. The sketches appear to capture people unknown to the artist engaged in every day life in Los Angeles in 1946. Most pages are dated with month and day. Publicity photograph, silver gelatin print, featuring the great jazz musician holding his trumpet and measuring 8 x 10 inches. Armstrong inscribed and signed his smiling image, "Best Wishes to June from Louis Armstrong." "Direction Joe Glaser, RCA Building...New York" is printed on lower margin. Joseph G. Glaser (1896 - 1969) who managed the careers of several jazz musicians and singers including Billie Holiday became Armstrong's manager in 1935. Armstrong, also known Satchmo, gained importance in the 1920s as an innovative cornet and trumpet player as well as an improvisational jazz singer.
