First Edition of the main work of Catherine Bernard (1663-1712), a Norman woman of letters who remained unknown despite the pioneering role she played on the literary scene of her time. Not only was she the first woman to compose a play performed at the Comédie Française, but she was also crowned three times by the Académie Française and she is especially known among the first representatives of the nascent genre of fairy tales. The present book, published a year before the first edition of Perrault's tales, contains two fairy tales: "Le Prince Rosier" (pp.11-44) but especially "Riquet à la Houppe" (pp.46-72) which served as inspiration for Charles Perrault for his famous tale of the same title.
