Description:
Melbourne : Thames & Hudson Australia Pty Ltd, 2022. Quarto, laminated illustrated boards, pp. 368, illustrated. New copy. The first major monograph on the boundary-pushing work of painter and sculptor, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran. Bursting with energy and life force, this visual cornucopia celebrates the work of Sri Lankan Australian sculptor and painter, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, one of Australia’s most prominent and sought-after contemporary artists. His exuberant ceramic idols and installations gleam with vivid impossible-to-ignore immediacy, provoking and stimulating audiences as he explores the politics of sex, gender and religion. Continually playing with form, materiality and scale, Ramesh has set new benchmarks in the field of ceramics. This highly anticipated monograph catalogues over 500 pieces in his signature neo-expressionist style. The rough-edged playfulness of his animated beings will appeal to both established collectors and seekers of the unconventional.

Entire letter, single sheet folding to form [4] sides, quarto, closely written manuscript in ink on 3 sides, headed 'Auckland, New Zealand, 8th February 1853', addressed to 'Alexander Gibbs Esqr., New Bedford'; signed at the foot 'Your faithful obedt. servants, Bain & Burtt'; outer side with address panel, endorsed 'via New York', with 'LONDON / SP 9 1853 PAID' in red, 'NEW YORK / SEP 23 PAID 24' in red and charged '5 CENTS' in red; remnants of red wax seal; the letter is complete and in exceptionally fine condition. Bain & Burtt were Auckland shipping agents and merchants. The co-owner of the firm, James Burtt, was also American Vice-Consul in Auckland. Description:
Manuscript letter in ink on laid paper, one page quarto, with a conjugate leaf with address panel and red wax seal; dated at 'Newgate, 9th May 1787', signed 'Thos. Baker', and addressed to 'Right Honble. Lord Sydney, Secretary of State'; the letter is written in a fine hand, apparently by a scrivener on the prisoner's behalf (see below); old folds, conjugate leaf with small marginal loss where the seal was broken; a very well preserved document. A rare example of a First Fleet convict letter. At the Exeter Quarter Sessions on 10 January 1786, Thomas Baker - no occupation recorded - was found guilty of a felony and sentenced to transportation for seven years. He was initially held on the prison hulk Dunkirk at Plymouth, where a report from the superintendent described him as 'troublesome at times'. He was later transferred to Newgate, before being delivered to the convict transport Charlotte on 11 March 1787. A petition presented to Lord Sydney, signed by prominent members of his parish and…

Reykjavík: Skrudda, 2005. Octavo (235 x 150 mm), publisher's blue cloth over boards in pictorial dust jacket, pp 280, b/w plates, map, bibliography, index; text in Icelandic; an as new copy. Icelandic translation of Sarah Bakewell's The English Dane : a life of Jorgen Jorgenson (London : Chatto & Windus, 2005), which tells - through his own manuscripts and letters - the story of one of the most colourful characters in Australia's convict history, who was known to Icelanders as ""the king of the dog-days"". Trove locates no copies in Australian libraries. The Danish adventurer Jorgen Jorgenson first visited Australia in the years 1801-1805, arriving at Port Jackson as a sailor aboard the Harbinger. He was then transferred to the HMS Lady Nelson and probably sailed with Flinders in 1802, visiting Port Phillip and Van Diemen's Land. After returning to Denmark he fought against the Royal Navy in the Anglo-Danish War, captaining a privateer. Following his capture and eventual release in London, he…

Paris : Onestar Press, 2015. First edition. Limited to 250 numbered copies. Octavo, flushcut illustrated wrappers, pp. [126]. A series of line drawings, which when flicked through, form the countoured shape of a nose. ""It should be said that Baldessari's penchant for depicting noses in his work extends as far back as 1965 with the conception of ""God Nose"", one of the artist's very few pre-1965 paintings to have survived. Here, with his onestar press edition, Baldessari conceives a book about a nose, with a nose, wherein the artist's famed subject appears and disappears upon a series of pages, in one fluid sweep."" - the publisher.

Description:
[Melbourne: the artist], 2013. Artist’s book. Edition 2/3, signed, titled and dated 2013 in pencil. Handmade red cloth-covered boards measuring 105 x 85 mm with concertinafold rag paper fastened to the boards, hand-stitched with linocut illustrations of leaves and overlaid with further linocut designs. When opened, the book can either be extended in linear fashion or folded back upon itself to produce a wheel or star. The artwork deliberately conceals decorative elements from instant view to reflect the themes of veiling and concealment and the pursuit of beauty. This complex paper construction is meticulously executed by hand and housed in a folding card box with string ties. Elizabeth Banfield was born in the U.K. in 1963 and arrived in Australia in 1966. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the University of South Australia in 1984, majoring in printmaking. From a series of initial student exhibitions in Adelaide in the 1980s she went on to exhibit in national printmaking…
