Garden City: Doubleday, 1965. First edition thus. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. First collected edition of these two novels, and the first US hardback edition of either of them. From the time when Ballard was still a secret known mostly to science fiction fans. Both the trade and the book club editions on this book are moderately scarce -- the trade scarcer and more desirable, of course. Clipped dustjacket with several closed tears, the longest about 5cm at the head of the spine; now in a protector to prevent further damage. The book is clean, with slight flaking of the gold on the spine title. A difficult title to find for the Ballard completist.

A translation into Latin of the classic children's tale )sometimes called the Great American Novel) with the original illustrations. It's amusing to see how this was done! Scarce now. A very nice copy with slight foxing on the top edge and one small fox-mark on the bottom; jacket clean, binding tight, skimmed-through but not read. An amusement that will grace any collection. This copy does not include the separately-issued selective glossary.

An important book on the mathematical theory of games. Slight water-stain on last few (non-text) pages; small tears and wear on back cover; small amounts of cover curl. Previous owner's name and date of purchase on first internal leaf. Binding tight and solid. No writing or underlining inside.

A peculiar long poem about a visit to an odd planet. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper, with a date 0f 1876. An early fantasy book. POD reprints are easy to come by, but the original volume is uncommon. Original rust cloth with gold printing on spine. Picture available on request.

Advent made 725 copies of the first edition of this volume, a collection of Robert Bloch's fannish writings. 400 were bound in wraps: this is one of those. Bloch is known primarily as a horror writer, but humor was a part of most of his stories: and this collection, of his writings for fanzines, showcases that humorous side. This volume had a much smaller print run in its first edition than most of Bloch's books: because it came from a specialty press, more copies are preserved in good condition than some others. This copy is tight and clean, overall. The spine is somewhat faded, there are some small internal stains that do not affect the text: overall, a very presentable copy. From the collection of a reader, rather than a collector: and with luck, it will go to another reader.

One of 250 copies (#246) for private distribution. A collection of six previously uncollected Kai Lung stories originally published in the British humor magazine Punch in the 1940s, with uncredited illustrations, many signed E. H. S. in a hand very similar to the writing of Ernest H. Shepard, the illustrator of Winnie the Pooh and The Wind in the Willows. Stylistically, they appear similar to Shepard's other work. Nobody else seems to have credited these to him, so I will not guarantee it; but Shepard collectors should check out this book: the signature initials are in the lower left corner of the photos with this listing. This is a clean, tight copy with one very small tear on the rear cover of the dustjacket; about as nice as one could want. A very interesting example of cultural appropriation.

Number 107 of 350 copies, in slipcase with dustjacket as issued. Two small rubbed patches on slipcase, otherwise just as issued by the publisher. See second photo for the rubbed bits -- they're pretty hard to see!

First US edition, inscribed by the author ("To Tom -- Anthony Burgess") when Burgess came through UC Berkeley. I am the person he inscribed it to, so I can attest to the validity of the signature! Unclipped jacket has spine fading, and is missing chips at top and bottom of spine. Corners slightly bumped. Still, an uncommon book to find signed. Pictures available on request.
