Clarence King was a member of the Geologic Corps under Whitney's direction as State Geologist. The full-page woodcut plates show scenery in the Sierras and Yosemite. The plates were made from drawings by Whitney and C. F. Hoffman, and from Yosemite photographs by Carleton Watkins. First edition, with Dulac's classic illustrations, make this
one of art literature's most sought-after volumes, with some condition issues (see below). VG copies of this book run several multiples of the price here.
Condition is Fair. Bumped corners and wear to edges of boards. Frayed hinges, but binding is still sound. Pages are clean and bright. Plates on p. 89 and 95 are missing; others are crisp and clean.
