The author Roald Dahl has signed boldly to the title page in the typical felt pen that he signed many books with. He has signed without dedication.  Dahl's collection of macabre short stories that also included for the first time "The Champion of the World" a precursor to his classic children's novel Danny Champion of the World. A previous bookseller and previous owner's plates to the front pastedown in volume 1. The reverse of first blank end paper are two previous owner's written names, in both volumes. Volume 1 has one name crossed out and remnants of a previous booksellers remarks written in pencil. The same remnants of pencil marks are on the rear last blank end paper. Both volumes have light foxing marks to preliminary pages. Both volumes have been recased with minor repairs made to the spine ends. The upper card cover has a darker mark to the bottom of the card and a crease to the bottom right hand corner. The binding is exposed between p32 and 33 although holding firm. The fragile original wrapper has two tears to the front panel at the top and bottom and there is a split to the fore edge. There is general wear to the edges and a chip to the bottom edge of the back panel. The jacket in general is worn.  The first book on television. This book was written by Dinsdale to explain, mainly the work of John Logie Baird to the reader in plain language about how television works. The spine is lettered in gilt along with a gilt motif. The front board is lettered in black. A first issue copy. The pages have scattered foxing in places and the front and last end papers have lighter square patches where perhaps a wrapper or insert had sat. All illustrations are present.  1500 copies of the author's first travel book were printed but around 900 were pulped, making copies in decent condition quite rare. Douglas documents his journey through southern Italy. He discusses mythology, folklore, ghosts and patron saints along with a history of the region and detailing of the landscape.  . Very Good.
