The spine is lettered in gilt along with a gilt motif. The front board is lettered in black. A first issue copy. The pages have scattered foxing in places and the front and last end papers have lighter square patches where perhaps a wrapper or insert had sat. All illustrations are present.  1500 copies of the author's first travel book were printed but around 900 were pulped, making copies in decent condition quite rare.
