Spines of each volume have six compartments, four containing extensive gilt decoration, one with a black spine label displaying Tom. Number, and one containing a red spine label with "Daelman Theologia." Pages are clean and crisp and free of marking foxing, soiling and staining. All page edges are rouged, and all boards are firmly attached. A few scattered and unobtrusive library stamps. The volumes are as follows:Vol 1. Endpaper bears the inscription "Edward Howard Griggs/Florence/March 27, 1895." Bound in later full vellum over thin boards with "Il Pensaci Bene" handwritten in ink to spine and other near contemporary writing to covers, now largely illegible. Griggs was an author and lecturer. de Barry (1587-1661) was a French Jesuit and author. This volume is notable for the illustrations of heaven and hell.

Small light marginal dampstain towards the end. Scattered light foxing. Fore edge and bottom uncut. A very nice wide margined copy. Also contains the Adhesion de Monseigneur l'Eveque d'Amiens, a l'Instruction Pastorale de Monseigneur l'Archeveque de Paris, by Louis Francois Gabriel, the Bishop of Amiens. 16 pages, including final blank, which is often lacking. Bound in contemporary marbled light card stock, with paper spine bearing title in neat ink manuscript. Covers rubbed with old repairs and remnant of library label to front cover. The first and only edition of this rare defense of the Jesuits against the attacks and suppression by the French secular authorities. The book was ordered to be burned by the public executioner, and some of its arguments earned a now famous response by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Bound in (near?) contemporary waxed cloth with gilt tile to front cover and gilt title, author and publisher to spine. Spine a little sunbleached and very light rubbing to extremities. A spectacular copy of this reprinting on de Bury's work on the love of books and book collecting in Latin with English translation. It also contains biographical and historical materials.
