Description:
133 pp. Ads on back leaf. Slight wear to edges and top and bottom of spine, else fine. Quarto, 8.5 x 11 in., The "1999" on the lower left is not a date. Other longer digits appear there in other exemplars; this seems to me to be the original 1946/7 issue, but I am unable to verify. Book by E.Y. Harburg & Fred Saidy. Crawford Music Corporation, c1947. Made in England. Vocal Score. Pictorial wraps, illus, Don Freeman. Laid in a program from November 14-18, 1956, for a production at Brown University by "Sock and Buskin," a student theater group, at the Faunce House Theater. The musical was performed on several campuses in 1956, having been revived on Broadway in 1955. Also laid in, an article by E. Y. Harburg, "The Bridge That Spans the Galaxy," clipped from an unidentified source. There Harburg says, "The merry, light-hearted handling of all these problems by the dancing, singing leprechauns and pixie people, make us long wistfully for a Congress of just such characters in Washington, D.C."

New York: Fordham University Press, 1964. 215 pp. Book with corner bump, sticker ghosts. DJ with rubbing, chipping, tears, but generally complete. 'In the mid-nineteenth century, whan Frederic Mistral gathered round him at Avignon the brilliant group that formed the Felibrige with a view to stimulating interest in the Provencal language, he had little idea of the scope of the movement that then begann. The seven 'gaid felibres provencaux; brought about a revival of letters that was to go hand and hand with the rehabilitation of the old language and make the people of the south of France conscious of their race and heritage. As the principal poet of the group, Mistral was to produce his epic-romance Mireio, a story of frustrated lave in shich Moeric grandeur and the charm and simplicity of Theocritus are situated in the fair land of the valley of the Rhone. Boosey & Hawkes. c. 1901. Plate H. 3239. ''But if you say that Elgar's Cockaigne overture combines every classic quality of a concert overture with every lyrical and dramatic quality of the overture to Die Meistersinger, you are either uttering a platitude as safe as a compliment to Handel on the majesty of the 'Hallelujah' Chorus, or else damning yourself to all critical posterity by uttering a gaffe that will make your grandson blush for you. Personally, I am prepared to take the risk. What do I care for my grandson? Give me Cockaigne.''--G.B. Shaw.. Wraps. Very Good. Folio 14'' X 10''.
