London: Marshall Bros., 1898 One of Pilkington's great contributions was his translation of the Bible into Luganda. Ironically, despite his desire for a purely spiritual understanding of Christianity, he was a firm believer in British colonialism. In 1897 he accompanied his beloved Baganda soldiers as they went to quell the mutiny of Sudanese troops in eastern Uganda and was killed in battle. xvi, 346pp+v. Black and white plates and two folding maps.

London: Universities Mission to Central Africa, 1918 The incarceration of the British in German East Africa during the First World War. In remarkably good condition for a paperback of this age. Cover illustrated in black and red on green sugar paper. 111pp with 15 interesting black and white photographic plates and a map. Slight wear to corners, and light soiling to lower cover.

E.F.Laidlaw, 1990 "The National Cottage Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest on the separate principle" may be said to have been conceived in 1867, founded in 1868 and opened in 1869. It was closed on April 15th 1964 by which time its name had changed to the "Royal National Hospital for Diseases of the Chest".

London: "Fun" Office, 1880 104pp of wicked characterisation of the Victorian trader and builder. Recently rebound with cloth spine and original limp covers remounted to hardboards. Loss of image to lower front corner otherwise very good throught.

It covers one hundred years (1770-1870) of a stylistically unique form of art originally developed in Britain, including examples which range from the truly sublime to the utterly riduculous. 256pp well illustrated in colour and black and white.

Kingsport, Tennessee: Louisiana State University Press, 1965 Mines anchored in the water, torpedoes rammed into ships, land mines set off by footsteps or detonated electrically from a distance. These were the infernal machines employed by the Confederacy during the years 1861-1865 to harass and repel invading Union forces.

To this purpose I have endeavoured to vary my designs, beginning with the humblest, and ascending to the castellated style indicative of a residence of the highest class." Twelve designs each comprising a scenic view, a plan, a front elevation and a side elevation. 48 lithographic plates, drawn by the architect author and printed by Hullmandell. 29 of which have varying degrees, but mainly light foxing. The scenic views ane decorative and well executed.

Loughborough: David Dover An authentic record of the War Work of the Mayor and Mayoress and other inhabitants of the ancient and Royal Borough of Stamford, with some account of the local conditions during the war period 1914-1919. An undated modern reprint of indifferent quality but surprisingly a scarce item in its own right.
