Germany: J. F. Fabrikmarke, 1912. A German collection of 20 magic lantern slides, in two boxes. Made circa 1912 (one box dated). The second box appears somewhat older. these show a variety of scenes, children's tales, characters and illustrations. Ten of the slides have 4 images to each slide. Ten have 5 images to each slide. Condition is generally very good, with some minor scratches and blemishes only.

Some poem / section numbers are printed incorrectly, but all are present, and all engravings are present. Slight rubbing to the edges of the spine, and a touch of bumping to the boards. The text block is spotless, with the engravings beautifully clean and bright. 260 by 210mm (10¼ by 8¼ inches). This is a scarce London edition. First Latin-French edition of Faerno'Â’s collection, an English-French edition was published two years before. Gabriele Faerno (d. 1561) was commissioned to compile a selection of Aesopian fables by his protector Pope Pius IV in c. 1550. Lyon: Society for the Propogation of the Faith, 1838. First Thus. First edition. A single sheet, folded octavo, with 8 printed pages, uncut. This comprises two articles extracted from Annals of the Propagation of the Faith. One is a summary of the income and expenditure of the missions. An interesting summary - showing which of the missions and individuals received grants. The other, is a summary of the work of the missions, first published in the Dublin Review (no. 8). Overall, this is in a good condition. There is a touch of marking to the rear page only. Otherwise very clean and tidy.

The softback with Art Deco illustrated covers by Macdonald, is full of period illustrations, sepia photographs, and advertisements. A new three bed home in Hove would have cost you £720 in 1936. The covers are in good, strong condition, with just a little marking to the edges. Inside, this work is in excellent condition throughout. London: Frederick Warne & Co, 1904. An attractive copy of this scarce first edition. Undated but 1904. The text is by Farrow, but beauty of the book lies in the beautiful red and black illustrations by Harry B. Nielson (1861-1941). Red spine, and illustrated front board. The illustration is bright, but there is a little staining to the front and rear board. Illustrations throughout. The text and illustrations are clean and bright, but the binding has split to the title page. Although still holding, the binding is a little shaken throughout as a result and the text block is threatening to break free. Very small closed tear to the edge of the title page and illustrations leaf. 19 full page illustrations. 325 x 260 mm.

Paris : Librairie TheÌ�odore LefeÌ€vre et Cie.. The alphabet for young children telling a story about a doll. Original hardback illustrated boards, with red cloth spine. Undated, but inscription to front blank page says in French that it was received on 2nd January 1896, so it was obviously printed before then. Lovely hand coloured illustrations. Boards are darkened and a little stained. Inside, has been repaired long ago with tape. Inscription - as mentioned previously - to front blank. Half title has small closed tear to the edge. Engraved coloured frontispiece and engrave title have been stuck together at some point. Likely when the book was taped. Pages are aged, and delicate but the book is complete. Paris: Cuchet, 1783. First edition. Fairly recent French full leather binding, with gilt titles and decoration to the spine. Barthélémy Faujas de Saint-Fond (a French geologist and traveller) produced this work in 1783 as the Montgolfier brothers were conducting their experiments. This is the revised edition of the book - with a supplement and further information about the brother's experiments in June-September 1783. There is a brief supplement to the rear adding information about the flight of November 21, in which Pilâtre de Rozier, accompanied by the Marquis d'Arlandes, made the first aerial voyage in history. This last flight is often recorded in engravings as the first flight over Paris. There was a second continuation volume issued in 1784. Complete with engraved frontis portrait. This is a French translation, by J. Martinet, of the memoirs of the notorious public life, and colourful private life, of the late Right Honourable Charles-James Fox. Spine shows very little sign of wear, and boards are just a little scuffed. Internally, the pages are toned, particularly to the front. Evidence of a small bookplate having been removed from front pastedown. Charles-James Fox (1749-1806), was a prominent British statesman whose opinions in favour of the American War of Independence became some of the most radical ever to be aired in the Parliament of his era. Dark soft covers, with the 'negative' version of one of Warhol's famous Marilyn Monroe silkscreens adorning the front cover. Perfect binding. Unpaginated. High quality reproductions throughout. Covers rubbed, particularly at tail of spine. Slight rubbing to first page. 285 x 240 mm (11¼ x 9½ inches).

Lugduni / Lyon: : Giunti Press, 1558. Reprint. St Vincent Ferrer's Winter Sermons. Contemporary limp vellum, with hand written titles to the spine. Paper shelf label to spine (not library copy though). Vignette title page. Historiated initials throughout. Overall, this work is in very nice condition for its age. The vellum has no chips. Two of the four vellum ties are present. There is marking and staining to the vellum, with a little discolouration. A tiny amount of nicking to the head and tail of the spine. There is a little worm damage to the page lining of the vellum, and a very small amount to the end papers. The text block is not affected by worm. There is a pale stain to the first few pages (inc title) but quite light, and not affecting legibility. Throughout the book, the text block has been somewhat zealously trimmed to the top edge. London: The Ballantyne Press / Hacon & Ricketts / John Lane, 1901. First edition. A lovely copy of this pseudonymous work. One of 290 copies (Edition limited to 290 unnumbered copies, including 10 on vellum, we offer one of the 280 on Arnold's handmade paper). Green buckram spine, with paper covered boards. The paper shows leaves blowing in the wind. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The paper label is a little rubbed and darkened, but still legible. Externally very good overall. Inside, the book is an immaculate copy, with fractional foxing to the initial pages, and a touch of darkening to the front and rear end papers, otherwise spotless. Opening with a nice ornamented border in black figuring on top Janus, on left the medal of Comodus, and the Amazon and her moon-shaped shield, and below the Nemean lion's skin and Herakles' mace.
