Some scuffing and general light wear to the boards, hand letter spine title. Interior has an owner insig dated 1849, some signs of light wear, bit of foxing, sewing showing but book holding very well. In Italian. Rough cut pages with a bit of crisping at edges but all in all a nice copy. The author's most famous work. Vol. I only. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 283 pages .

Full page engraved plate showing the Personification of Rome before title in Vol. I and Vol. III, both volumes with red and black title page with engraved device and half title. Full vellum of the time with red marble decorated edges, cream and gold spine labels which are aged. Vol. II has half title but no title, plate or blank. Vol. II last few leaves have darkened and paper is cracking and thinned there, sometimes affecting text. Vellum has normal wear and age, library spine marks, Vol. I the vellum on the spine has a 2" crack in the middle, otherwise vellum is just lightly rubbed and worn at the edges. London: William Heinemann. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1920. First Edition. Hardcover. 63 pp. N. D. But 1920. Beautifully illustrated by Sauter in pen and ink with blue color to some, full color frontis. Lovely book is in really near fine condition with just a bit of foxing on the inside front covers from the dust jacket. Brown paper DJ is clean and crisp with a little ripple at the back inside flap. The DJ was protected by a tripart folding cloth-covered box which is also in good condition with just a bit of sunning to the spine edge. This folding box fits into a 1/4 morroco slip case with gilt to spine. The leather on the spine is worn at the raised bands, some rubbing to the case at all extremities and especially the back, but still good. Very hard to find in this complete and lovely 4 part package -- book, DJ, protective folding case and slip case. ; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall; 63 pages .
