Originally published c. 1820, this Richardson edition can be dated from its distribution by Hurst, Chance & Compy, all twenty of whose imprints in the BL Catalogue are dated 1825-30.

Contemporary blind ruled calf, neatly rebacked at some time and with a contrasting label. The leather with some surface loss and wear on the corners. The inner joints strengthened with cloth strips and the endpapers replaced. Ownership inscriptions of Alexander Keith, possibly Alexander Keith of Ravelston a friend of Sir Walter Scott. The first of three Hague printings by Brown. All are scarce. ESTC R33416. Madan 37.

Stab sewn as issued and lacking the wrappers. The first and final leaf dusty and chipped and the first leaf with a circular mark at the foot from an old label. The paper is lightly toned throughout, but generally clean and untrimmed. Not a fine copy but a decently printed 18th century edition on thick paper.

The spines gilt in panels between raised bands, with two contrasting labels. Some rubbing to edges and the leather faded, but still a pretty set. The contents clean and tight, and show occasional toning of the paper.
