University of Georgia Press, 1999. Hard cover. Like New/Very Good. The dustjacket is in Very Good+ condition. "Unlike current deconstruction readings of early American literature that assert the relativity of language and of moral vision. Janet Gabler-Hover's Truth in American Fiction contends that most of the major novelists of 19th-century American consciously discriminated in their works between the moral and immoral use of language. They could be confident that their reading public understood this moral discrimination largely because of the widespread belief in rhetorical idealism, particularly the truth-telling power of language".

Arcadia Publishing, 2006. Softcover. Like New. 6x0x9. As west as metropolitan Los Angelesâs trendy Westside gets, Santa Monica has enjoyed a colorful history as both a resort community and a bedrock hometown on the Southern California coast. As a playground and ready-made set for Hollywood, traditional hotbed of progressive politics, and amorphous fun zone for a greater century of visitors, the city of Santa Monica has remained at the forefront of the evolution of California culture. Prior to World War II, Santa Monica was a collection of distinct neighborhoodsâSanta Monica Canyon and Ocean Park among themâand its pier, built in 1909 beneath the bluffs of Palisades Park, became a regional draw, especially after the nationâs largest dance emporium, La Monica Ballroom, was built on it. Kanine Knits, 2007. Trade paperback. Very Good. 10x8x0. With portraits of Goldens hunting, rescuing a child, diving from a dock, and performing a myriad of other activities that make these dogs so distinctive. Only these portraits are created using knitting stitches. The knitted portraits appear as more than 20 charted graphs that knitters may work into any of the 24 sweater and accessory patterns included. Peggy Gaffney has, since 1997, been creating portraits of dogs in knitting for clients at her Kanine Knits studio. This was an obvious choice of career for a lifelong knitter who has been active in the world of dogs since 1968. Peggy's work has been seen at shows such as the AKC Eukanuba Tournament of Champions and Westminster as well as being the subject of newspaper and magazine articles and television interviews. A scarced craft title.

Description:
W. W. Norton & Company, 2007. First edition. Hard cover. Like New/Very Good. They began as courtiers in a hierarchy of privilege, but history remembers them as patriot-citizens in a commonwealth of equals. On April 18, 1775, a riot over the price of flour broke out in the French city of Dijon; that same night, across the Atlantic, Paul Revere mounted the fastest horse he could find. So began what have been called the "sister revolutions" of France and America. In a single narrative, this book tells the story of those revolutions and shows just how deeply intertwined they actually were. Their leaders, George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette, were often seen as father and son, but their relationship, while close, was every bit as complex as the long, fraught history of the French-American alliance. Vain, tough, ambitious, they strove to shape their characters and records into the form they wanted history to remember.
