The last two pages have a catalog of the author's recent publication available for order from his community Fountain Grove and from various publishers in the United Kingdom. Thomas Lake Harris (1823- 1906) was a Spiritualist, poet, maker of wine and the founder of several communal experiments in Virginia, New York, and California.

He discusses the various issues of addition and pushes back at doctors who too freely prescribed additive drugs. According to Hawkins he beat addition by quitting and suffering through withdrawal.

Liverpool, 1855. A document from 1855 while Hawthorne was Consul of the United States to Liverpool. The document is granting permission for sailors aboard the "Barge Bertha," from Camden, Maine, to ship out of Liverpool on the way to Venice "then one or more ports in the Mediterranean." The document is signed by Hawthorne and also features his seal. The document has been folded with some slight browning and discoloration. Signature is clean. There is a second document pertaining to the voyage of the "Barge Bertha" that contains the signature of Hawthorne's Vice Consul, Samuel Pearce. This document has a few small holes and some slight browning. Signature is clean. These documents were received in a file from Walter R. Benjamin Autographs.

Fanny Hyde came from England as a young girl and was employed in several capacities until age 15 when she started working for George Watson who owned a hair net factory. He was 45 and enticed or forced Hyde into a relationship. After two years Hyde shot and killed him as he left for lunch. The trial ended with a hung jury and Hyde was to face another trial. Homes (1833-1886) was born in Scotland into a family of seers and believers of spirits. He was raised in Connecticut. As an adult he travelled widely becoming one of America's best-known spiritualists. In 1855 he travelled to England and across Europe to Russia. He lived there for many years marrying twice before ending his days in Paris where he is buried.

1970. William Hood (1920-2013) was born and raised in Maine and joined the OSS in World War II. He served as a member of the CIA in Europe for 30 years, retired, and wrote spy novels. These photos show protests against the Vietnam war and pro-war protestors. The photographs are in excellent condition, with some attached back-to-back. Hood gave this collection to Bevin O'Brien before his death. O'Brien is the daughter of founding ABAA member Francis O'Brien. 7 1/2" x 9 3/4
