(8 3/4" x 6 1/4"); quarter brown suede over burgundy cloth with decorations and titling in faded gilt; [x], 11-111, followed by [1] with "Official Codes"; comic quatrains, 3 to a page, each illustrated with simple line drawings printed in burgundy;there is a previous owner name and address on the pastedown the book housed in publisher's slipcase.~~A nice period piece: "The sketches of such people as Columbus, Queen Isabella, Brigham Young and Champlain are, quite naturally, not sketched from life. I was not personally acquainted with them. On the other hand, neither were your. And so you cannot prove that they didn't look like that." (Note from the Author).~~Uncommon. We locate 4 copies on OCLC. Very Good binding.

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1929. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding/Very Good dust jacket. Signed. 8vo; in the publisher's black cloth binding with labels, and with dustjacket; xvi, [2], 3-85; pages largely unopend.~~This copy inscribed by illustrator Clare Leighton to her then lover, Henry Noel Brailsford. Ms. Leighton provided the woodcut frontispiece and decorations for this book. Noel Brailsford is considered to be the most prolific British left-wing journalist of the first half of the 20th century, and was one of the founders of the Men's League for Women's Suffage [see wiki]. Mr. Brailslford and Clare Leighton lived together for nearly a decade starting in 1928; he was still married to his first wife, and she denied him a divorce. In 1939 Ms. Leighton left England to reside permanently in the United State; she never married.~~The presentation from Clare Leighton: "To Noel from Clare | --a hurried offering | December 1929.". Very Good binding / Very Good dust jacket.

(7 1/4" x 5"); in the publisher's dark green cloth, with titling in red along with a rule to the perimeter of the upper board, with a rondel of a comic image of (presumably) a Congressman in the center of the upper board; with frontispiece and 14 additional illustration; there are no marks of any kind in the book.~~Comedy abound in this story narrated by a Congressman who is among the large group accompanying by train Senator Thurlow's body home to Kentucky for burial. The train, with its load of colorful politicians is snowbound, a circumstance which affords the men -- including Colonel Manysnifters of Georgia -- an opportunity to tell "strange and wonderful stories" to while the time away. ~~A reasonably attractive copy of one of the less common of the Neale titles.~~ (Krick 144). Very Good binding.

(7 1/2" x 5 1/8"); in the publisher's mauve cloth ruled in black to the perimeter of the upper board with titling in gilt; 144 pages; with frontispiece and five plates, all present as called for; there are no ownership marks of any kind.~~We believe that Mr. Krick outdid himself with the synopsis of this novel. This Neale imprint we nearly took home to read on the basis of what Krick said about it: "Dick loves Ruth, who is being sent away to school, but not before an exciting spelling bee takes place. The pair winds up joyously married, of course, with Ruth exclaiming, "I am so glad I am the wife of a Southerner." (Krick 434). Very Good binding.
