I was not personally acquainted with them. On the other hand, neither were your. And so you cannot prove that they didn't look like that." (Note from the Author).~~Uncommon. A clean copy; First Whitman Edition, which collected seven of the Hamilton Brown Shoe Co. stories into one hardcover volume. Includes full page color illustrations throughout. Dustjacket has a long closed tear to the front cover, and small chips and tears to the edges. Soiling to the front and rear covers, and small spots of surface loss to the spine. Now protected in a mylar cover. Good binding / Good dust jacket.

Signed. 8vo; in the publisher's black cloth binding with labels, and with dustjacket; xvi, [2], 3-85; pages largely unopend.~~This copy inscribed by illustrator Clare Leighton to her then lover, Henry Noel Brailsford. Ms. Leighton provided the woodcut frontispiece and decorations for this book. Noel Brailsford is considered to be the most prolific British left-wing journalist of the first half of the 20th century, and was one of the founders of the Men's League for Women's Suffage [see wiki]. Mr. Brailslford and Clare Leighton lived together for nearly a decade starting in 1928; he was still married to his first wife, and she denied him a divorce. In 1939 Ms. Leighton left England to reside permanently in the United State; she never married.~~The presentation from Clare Leighton: "To Noel from Clare | --a hurried offering | December 1929.". Foxing throughout; hinges reinforced by a conservator; 3 cm closed tear to the half title; shelfwear and minor loss to the extremities of the spine and corners of the boards; remnants of a sticker on the rear board. Red decorated cloth. Good. 413-602 pp. Good binding.

Ten 16mo. volumes; in three quarter blue morocco double ruled at the edges, over marbled paper boards with matching endpaper; top edges gilt; the spines with raised bands, lettered in gilt with ornaments in the Egyptian style; the several illustrations by C. E. Brock in each volume, with their soft pastel colors, seem particularly well suited to Jane Austen's writings. Very Good binding.

Polished calf with contrasting morocco labels; double rules with stops at the perimeters of the boards; dentelles; top edge gilt. Original cloth binding bound in at the rear. Very Good binding.

Large 8vo.; in publisher's pictorial boards, with dustjacket; [3],4-64 pages; this copy is signed with an inscription "as Jeremy Mouse" by illustrator Hilary Knight; the dusjtacket is bright and attractive, but has been price-clipped.~~The inscription reads: "Jeremy Mouse says ... | This book is for Carla Ann".~~Hilary Knight is one the great illsutrator of children's books in our era -- especially known for the Eloise books, and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books as well. In this case he collaborated with Richard Scarry's widoe. Near Fine binding / Very Good dust jacket.

XXX".~~This copy with foxing throughout; in marbled boards. An interesting binding, quarter bound with marbled paper, over the same marbled paper boards, with tape where the quarter marbled paper joined the marbled boards; There is loss to the red tape. With pastedown to the rear board with the author's name, and pastedown to the front board with the title. There is a small split to the textblock, but everything is holding well. Good binding.

New York and Washington: The Neale Publishing Company, 1909. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. 8vo. (7 1/4" x 5"); in the publisher's dark green cloth, with titling in red along with a rule to the perimeter of the upper board, with a rondel of a comic image of (presumably) a Congressman in the center of the upper board; with frontispiece and 14 additional illustration; there are no marks of any kind in the book.~~Comedy abound in this story narrated by a Congressman who is among the large group accompanying by train Senator Thurlow's body home to Kentucky for burial. The train, with its load of colorful politicians is snowbound, a circumstance which affords the men -- including Colonel Manysnifters of Georgia -- an opportunity to tell "strange and wonderful stories" to while the time away. ~~A reasonably attractive copy of one of the less common of the Neale titles.~~ (Krick 144). Very Good binding.

The dustjacket flap lists "The Land of No Shadow" as the third listing the in the Adventures in the Unknown Series. The dustjacket has moderate wear and closed tears is pretty much intact. Very Good binding / Good dust jacket.

(7 1/2" x 5 1/8"); in the publisher's mauve cloth ruled in black to the perimeter of the upper board with titling in gilt; 144 pages; with frontispiece and five plates, all present as called for; there are no ownership marks of any kind.~~We believe that Mr. Krick outdid himself with the synopsis of this novel. This Neale imprint we nearly took home to read on the basis of what Krick said about it: "Dick loves Ruth, who is being sent away to school, but not before an exciting spelling bee takes place. The pair winds up joyously married, of course, with Ruth exclaiming, "I am so glad I am the wife of a Southerner." (Krick 434). Very Good binding.

Bound in pictorial boards backed in blue cloth. The boards have minor shelfwear. Discreetly rebacked; the textblock extrudes a small amount beyond the boards. Very Good binding.
