We judge this book to be near fine, with the caveat that on page 145 Gail Frey Borden annotates a correction to the author's discussion of his (Borden's) background./Very good; closed tear. A detailed history of the British Middle East Centre for Arab Studies (MECAS), by Sir James Craig, who served as a principal instructor for three years. MECAS, which existed from 1944-1978, was created during World War II to train British diplomats and soldiers in Arab culture. This book provides an insider's perspective on its creation, its functioning, and its ultimate closure. The book also features 4 pages of black-and-white photographs and color illustrations. Errata slip insert is included.

Lakeside Press, founded in 1864, has long prided itself on producing high quality publications. Earlier in its history, Lakeside was a publisher of the Encyclopedia Brittanica, the Sears catalog, Time, and Life. Lakeside Classics, of which this volume is one, is a series begun in 1903 to reprint neglected classics, particularly those based on American history. By 2015, there were 113 volumes. The most interesting fact about Lakeside Classics is that they were never sold! The current year's volume was/is given to employees and friends of the publishing house each year at Christmas.
