Blue cloth with decoration and design in gilt and black. 8mo-over 6"-7" tall. 281 pp. A vintage retelling of the Trojan War legends with beautiful color plates and B&W illustrations by Herbert Cole. Illustrated endpapers. There's a Junior High School bookplate affixed in the front, and a little fading to the decoration on the spine. Otherwise in very good, unmarked condition.

Choix de Chansons compiled by Jean-Benjamin de Laborde

J. Lemonnyer Bookseller in Rouen, 1881, Quarto, 2 ff + 150 + (3) pages. Volumes 3 & 4 of the reprint on Vergé paper of the superb 1773 edition of a selection of songs with scores by Jean Benjamin de Laborde (1734-1794) familiar with Louis XV and the Du Barry. For Volume 1, De Laborde had begun the illustrations with Jean-Michel Moreau (1741-1814), but he collaborated with Le Bouteux, Le Barbier and Saint-Quentin for the other 3 volumes. In addition to the front cover and the title page, there is a frontispiece in this volume (bound after the title page), and 25 intaglio engravings by Le Bouteux, Le Barbier and Saint-Quentin.

Condition: The two books were clearly damaged in a fire. The boards are in poor condition, and the edges are singed. There is some staining around the margins of some of the pages- more in Vol. 3 than Vol. 4. - but many other pages show little or no damage. Please see the photos...

A charming vintage book in very good condition. The frontis. plate is loose (see photos) the gilt titles are mostly faded on the spine and there's some age darkening to the cover. There's a neatly penned gift inscription dated "Christmas 1917" in front - otherwise unmarked. About the book: Brother and sister Charles and Mary Lamb's classic re-telling of 20 of Shakespeare's best loved plays. Illustrated beautifully in this vintage edition.

Laid-in is a ticket for "Cercle Royal Laetitia" at an address in Anvers, with a 1957 date.

First edition of the eighth book in the Doolittle series, illustrated by Lofting w a color frontis and endpapers, and numerous B&W drawings. Doctor John Dolittle is the central character of a series of children's books by Hugh Lofting starting with the 1920 The Story of Doctor Dolittle. He is a physician who shuns human patients in favor of animals, with whom he can speak in their own languages.

Condition: Very good. The pastedown is a little rubbed, and the titles on the spine are faded. There's a prev owner's name in pencil in front dated 1927.
