It was issued to help with the restoration of an incline railway in Los Angeles, which was part of the author's childhood. A signed letter from Connelly explaining the history of the railway and the efforts to rebuild it. Also included is a souvenir ticket for the railway. Whitman, Racine, WI, 1962. Hardcover in Printed Boards w/o Dust Jacket as issued.Pages are browning as is common with Whitman editions. Some water staining to some of the rear pages near the spine. Does not deform the book and does not detract from the text. Book has some scuffing and wear, mainly to rear board. Front artwork has only minimal rubbing. Corners have minimal wear as well. Spine head and heel have moderate wear/chipping. Exterior back hinge has about a one inch section where the paper has torn and has exposed the webbing underneath. The interior hinges are in good shape except for about a one inch tear in the paper on the rear hinge. Cover is firmly attached to the book, but as with all Whitman books, care is suggested - ;-).

Whitman, Racine, WI., 1957. Hardcover in Printed Boards w/o Dust Jacket as issued. A nice bright copy. Very little damage and only minimal wear to extremities. Cover is very clean with only minimal rubbing. Corners are sharp with only a tiny bit of wear. Spine extremities are straight and not bumped. Cover is firmly attached to book and interior hinges are unbroken. The only issue with the cover is there is a very small piece of the glossy laminate missing near the top of the front board near the spine. On the top of the back board in the spine hinge, the laminate has cracked a tiny bit, but is intact. Pages are browning as is very common with Whitman editions. A particularly nice copy.
