Description:
New York: Audio Renaissance, 2007. Audio Book CD. No binding. New. Audio books can be quite difficult to find in all but the latest dime-a-dozen thrillers. We really like our tangible, we-own-it audio versions of our favorite books, that we can carry around as we listen, and replay from time to time. But unabridged audio books of good literature or worthwhile fiction are just scarce and expensive. That's why we were pleased to find Rhett Butler's People in this unabridged audio book edition - and it has 18 hours of play time on 14 cds! The book, of course, is the authorized sequel to Gone With the Wind. ABEDESC 18 hours of play time on 14 cds. Unabridged sequel to Gone With the Wind, authorized by the Margaret Mitchell estate. New, still in shrink wrap.

Description:
New York: Viking Press, 2005. First Edition. Hardcover. New/New. Meet Smithson "Smithy" Ide, an overweight, friendless, chain-smoking, forty-three-year-old drunk who works as a quality control inspector at an action-figure factory in Rhode Island. By all accounts, especially Smithy's own, he's a loser. Then, within one week, Smithy's beloved parents are killed in a car crash, and Smithy learns that his emotionally troubled, long-lost sister, Bethany, has turned up in a morgue in Los Angeles. Unmoored by the loss of his entire family-Smithy had always hoped Bethany might return-he rolls down the driveway of his parents' house on his old Raleigh bicycle into an epic journey that will take him clear across the country.  As Smithy pedals across America-to New York City, St. Louis, Denver, and Phoenix, to name a few stops along the way-he encounters humanity at its best and worst and begins to remember an early life that too many beers have blotted out. The baseball games, the home-cooked meals, the… Read More

Description:
Portsmouth: Arcadia, 2004. Softcover. Very Good. The Images of America book series works with local writers and historians to create books highlighting the history of their neighborhoods. Barbara and Martin Rizek, authors of this book, were fixtures in their Financial District neighborhood. The book provides a look into its history. It is full of archival photos of the neighborhood, each chapter with a different focus: Neighborhood Life; Stores; Culture; Religious Life; Community Services and Education; The Last Days of the Neighborhood; and The World Trade Center. The pictures are charming: they show the origins of now-beloved sites, highlight families of the neighborhood, and offer a glimpse into the politics and culture of the time and place. This special copy of the book appears to have been annotated by the previous owner: the book includes an insert with copy of author's death notice, and several pages include taped-on additions to the photo captions, adding additional details about the… Read More

Description:
New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 2009. First. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. This interesting book by psychologist Karen L. Fingerman and award-winning journalist Melinda Blau (best known for the Baby Whisperer series), addresses the concept of "Consequential Strangers" - people that we meet briefly but that actually have strong impact on our lives. The authors write in the introduction, "This is a different kind of 'relationship book.' It won't teach you the rules or give you ten keys that will make you more attractive, loved, or successful, but it will make you think. It will change your definition of what an 'important' relationship is. And it will make you more aware of the people you encounter on the job, in your neighborhood, wherever you play and pray, in public arenas, and in cyberspace." This book provides a novel perspective and insights on human interactions.

Description:
New York: International Polygonics, Ltd, 1989. Softcover. Fine. There are two reasons a mystery buff will want this book: the first is that this is a republication of a mystery classic, dating from 1952, and the second is that this is a trade paperback. A trade paperback is not the small, low quality, mass market book we are so used to in the US. A trade paperback is larger and of higher quality paper, and therefore so much nicer to read and of course, collect. (One of our great pleasures is finding the British trade paperbacks of some of our favorite mystery authors - the UK editions are trade paperbacks and therefore so much more desirable and more pleasurable to read.) Millar is known for the depth of her characters, and we highly recommend Wikipedia's succinct article regarding her writing style and characterization. As mystery buffs ourselves, we are always on the lookout for a good authors in this genre that we may have ...(clutching my pearls here)... overlooked! ABEDESC First IPL edition.… Read More

Description:
Paris: Librarie Garnier Frères, 1921. Hardcover. Good. The Garnier Frères publishing house produced many versions of Molière's collected works over the years after it was established in 1833. This one, published in 1921, is a three-volume set, quarter-bound in dark-red morocco over red marbled boards, with contrasting green marbled endpapers. The spine has five false raised bands, each with a line of gold tooling, and the title and volume number is tooled in gold in two sections between the first and second bands; gold tooled floral decorations are in each of the other sections. There are a few penciled notes in volumes one and two, but otherwise the pages are remarkable free of marks, stains and tears for books of this age. The bindings show shelf wear on all edges and bumping on the corners, but are tight and hold the pages quite well. Each volume is between 500 and 600 pages. These are good reading copies that will look very nice on any shelf. Complete three-volume set.

Description:
New York: Hyperion, 2003. First Edition. Hardcover. New/New. Signed first edition. New. From the publisher: "Set in Kerrville, Kansas, The Center of Everything is told by Evelyn Bucknow, an endearing character with a wholly refreshing way of looking at the world. Living with her single mother in a small apartment, Evelyn Bucknow is a young girl wincing her way through adolescence. With a voice that is as charming as it is recognizable, Evelyn immerses the reader in the dramas of an entire community. The people of Kerrville, stuck at once in the middle of nowhere but also at the center of everything, are the source from which Moriarty draws on universal dilemmas of love and belief to render a story that grows in emotional intensity until it lifts the reader to heights achieved only by the finest of fiction." About the author, from her own website: Laura Moriarty earned a degree in social work before returning for her M.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Kansas. She was the recipient of the… Read More

Description:
New York: Kingfisher, 2002. First. Hardcover. Near Fine; bumped corners/Very Good; two-inch closed tear in corner, shelf wear. First edition. This charming and well-illustrated book is in essence a small library of classic children's tales. Featuring excerpts from over 30 classic stories, parents will delight in sharing tales such as The Wind in the Willows, Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, and many more. Each story contains illustrations by different illustrators - some stories, such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, include reproductions of the original illustrations, while others, like My Side of the Mountain, were newly illustrated for this volume. In addition to the black-and-white and full-color illustrations, the pages of each story are decorated with colorful illustrated borders reflecting the theme or characters of the story. The borders lend a nice sense of composition, and the cover image of classic characters including Pippi Longstocking, Pinocchio, and Black Beauty serves as the perfect… Read More
