There are two reasons a mystery buff will want this book: the first is that this is a republication of a mystery classic, dating from 1952, and the second is that this is a trade paperback. A trade paperback is not the small, low quality, mass market book we are so used to in the US. A trade paperback is larger and of higher quality paper, and therefore so much nicer to read and of course, collect. (One of our great pleasures is finding the British trade paperbacks of some of our favorite mystery authors - the UK editions are trade paperbacks and therefore so much more desirable and more pleasurable to read.) Millar is known for the depth of her characters, and we highly recommend Wikipedia's succinct article regarding her writing style and characterization. This comprehensive anthology of American literature from the 17th through 20th centuries features selections from poetry, novels, plays, essays, memoirs, and personal letters and offers an extensive overview of American literature. The selections are organized into helpful groupings and accompanied by contextual material by James E. Miller. Miller writes, "Americans may be justly proud of their literature, and moreover will come to know themselves and discover their identity through encountering and experiencing that literature extensively and deeply. This anthology was designed to provide such an encounter, such an experience." The anthology is a 2-volume slipcased set, "Beginnings to the Civil War" and "Civil War to the Present."

Paris: Librarie Garnier Frères, 1921. Hardcover. Good. The Garnier Frères publishing house produced many versions of Molière's collected works over the years after it was established in 1833. This one, published in 1921, is a three-volume set, quarter-bound in dark-red morocco over red marbled boards, with contrasting green marbled endpapers. The spine has five false raised bands, each with a line of gold tooling, and the title and volume number is tooled in gold in two sections between the first and second bands; gold tooled floral decorations are in each of the other sections. There are a few penciled notes in volumes one and two, but otherwise the pages are remarkable free of marks, stains and tears for books of this age. The bindings show shelf wear on all edges and bumping on the corners, but are tight and hold the pages quite well. Each volume is between 500 and 600 pages. These are good reading copies that will look very nice on any shelf. Complete three-volume set.
