London: John Camden Hotten, 1861. Second edition. 8vo, 156pp, illustrated by Leech, Tenniel, Phiz and Portch, frontispiece by Cruikshank, in a fine morocco binding with gilt decoration, stamped "Bound by Morrell for John Wanamaker" to front endpaper. Likely sold in the rare book department of a John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia or New York. A 1911 book by the firm notes that "every year Wanamaker book collectors make their pilgrimages" to English bookstores to purchase illustrated works by such "master artists as Cruikshank, Leech, Rowlandson, Crowquill and Phiz" before having them bound in London by "such masters of the art as Zaehnsdorf, Riviere and Morrell" before being imported to America and sold in the stores. A very good copy, foxing to pages, offsetting to endpapers along edges, crumbling to leather along corners and edges of binding, mostly along spine.

Akron, Ohio: Saalfield Publishing Company, 1917. 12mo, 100pp, orange and purple cloth, with original patriotic dust jacket. A moral story calling for social unity during World War I, written by a pastor and rotary club member from Council Bluffs, Iowa, with a foreward by the international president of the Rotary Club. This copy with a lengthy inscription to front endpaper that reads in part "I gave a copy of this little book to the Captain of Unit 330 of the Ill. Vol Corps...may it help the boys guard the country with honor and keep the home fires burning." Very good with soiling and fading to edges of covers, bit of foxing to pages, dust jacket toned and soiled, bit chipped at corners.

This copy with Perry's clipped signature affixed to lower margin of title page, also with an 1889 presentation inscription from Mrs. B.F. Perry to James W. Howarth to front endpaper. Additional circa 1850s engraving of North Carolina judge William Gaston laid in loose. Damp staining to first couple of leaves, rear hinge cracked, covers worn at corners and spine ends, with minor soiling and staining, minor foxing and toning to pages.

An early American spelling book, which includes a section of illustrated "moral tales and fables for the instruction of youth," including "The Old Man and His Ass," "The Naughty Girl Reformed," etc. One inch tear to margin of one leaf, small hole to another, quarter sized hole to another leaf. Lacking blue paper that would have covered the binding, leaving the wood boards exposed. "Spelling" inked to spine of book. Frontispiece pasted down to front cover. Upper half inch of front cover lacking. Damp staining to first half of text. This copy inscribed "Mary Mason's Book Princeton Nov 30th 1813" to rear endpaper.
