Description:
Amsterdam: Chez Durand, 1749. Book. Very good- condition. Hardcover. Early edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. [ii], 203 pages of text. Original full leather binding is moderately rubbed and shelfworn, with cracking to the hinges, most significantly to the front hinge, but remaining intact and attractive. Decorative gilt tooled spine with a gilt-stamped spine label. Small remnant of a previous owner's label on the inside front cover, and a few letters and numerals on a front endpaper likely a shelf identifier. This treatise on the art of having handsome/beautiful children was first published in Leyden in 1655 and was followed by many editions, including this one. This French translation also includes the Latin verse on the facing page. Blake p. 368. The text is clean and unmarked. Early edition..
