Includes original tipped in Rakocy watercolor sketch, SIGNED in pencil by him (Rakocy ’86), where he has also written “How far into the states did Villa go?” Rakocy, who the El Paso Times called an “art icon” of the southwest, died in 2015.

Laid in is a December 18, 1966 The News and Observer article, “Mag Makes Debut” with picture of Banks reviewing the first issue (Banks is quoted as saying, “We do not expect to make a profit.”). The inaugural issue features work by Nelson Algren, William Stafford, Lewis Lipsitz, and Evan S. Connell, Jr., among others, contains reviews of Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49 and Walker Percy’s The Last Gentleman, and capsules of Sylvia Plath’s Ariel, Langston Hughes’s Poems from Black America, and A Poetry Reading Against the Vietnam War. A relatively hard-to-find first issue of this important periodical that ran from 1967-1974.

Douglas King, Larry Samson, Ryde Sainte-Pierre, Nancy Mairs, Kerry McDermott, Marvin Schwartz, Marvin Brook, Jimm Ingolio, Elliot Fried, and editor RVargas, who describes himself as “a young Chicano poet born and raised in the LA suburbs.” The first three issues were under Tequila Press Poetry Review before changing the name to Tequila Review (1978-1980).
