Overall, a tight, clean near fine copy./Dust jacket has a little shallow chipping at top of spine and at the bottom corners. Overall near fine.. This is a lovely copy with a penciled in date initials which look as though they might be JCR. But I am not sure.

In 1904, Brooks left Canada to work as a tutor in physics at Barnard College in New York City. It was not easy for a woman graduate in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century to find employment, especially in Canada. Even after she had secured a position at Barnard, she had to fight to establish her right to continue as a member of the faculty. The authors follow Brooks across the Atlantic, where she travelled to Italy with Maxim Gorky and his entourage, and on to Paris, where she worked for a short while with Marie Curie.

Several library rubberstamps scattered on prelims and back endpapers. Front hinge beginning to loosen ever so slightly. Crease on front board (see photo) which shows on both sides but is not at all flexible. The boards are sturdy. This slight scar is just a visible sign that it met with some blow along the way. Overall a very good copy. Library marking at bottom of spine.. Illustrated with many fold-out charts and diagrams..

Tall 8vo. 210 pp. including index. A beautifully produced book in fine condition./Jacket is slightly faded at top margin and on the spine and a little on back panel, Overall fine condition.. WIth illustrations by J. J. Grandville. The wit and vigor with which Ennis Rees retells these one hundred and eighty-seven traditional tales will appeal to readers young and old. As he says, "I have tried to re-create selected fables in verse for our time, and to do it in as lively a way as I could consistent with simplicity."

A touch of rubbing at extremities otherwise a tight, clean and fine copy.. Illustrated with many full color and some black and white halftone pictures and floral page decorations by Siegmund Forst.

From the Preface: "It is hard to realize that little over thirty years ago, Dow was presenting a radically novel idea, when he showed that beneath the fluctuations in individual stocks there was present at all times a trend of the market as a whole. Until then people who thought about such matters at all generally assumed that fluctuations in the prices of stocks were individual and unrelated, dependent entirely on the circumstances of the particular company and the current attitude of those speculators who chose to trade in each particular stock.
