Light handling wear to the dust wrapper edges. The book has mild compression to the corners. The upper text block edge has moderate foxing marks. First edition. Signed by the illustrator Peter Firmin underneath the frontispiece illustration and dated by him in the year of publication. In the corner of the same page he has inscribed "For oliver with love Peter". More likely, due to the warm inscription, it is to his long time bagpuss, noggin and clangers collaborator Oliver Postgate. Peter Firmin was commissioned with the task of illustrating Vita Sackville West's poetry from her titles The Land and The Garden. The book is profusely packed with his illustrations. The dust wrapper is mostly complete with a tiny chip to the bottom edge of the front panel and a couple of tiny chips to the top of the spine. The spine is a shade faded. The book has two bumped corners. Otherwise it is clean and without marks. The pages are without foxing. A better than is usually encountered first edition.  Smith's classic children's adventure about Dalmatians, that has been made into an animated film by Disney and then latterly a film starring Glenn Close as Cruella. A previous seller has struck the price out and instead written 5/-. The Book has one neat previous owners name to the corner of the front free end paper and a small booksellers sticker to the inside board. Overall a very good or better copy and much better than is usually found. Rare in this condition and with the fantastic Reingnum jacket. Spark's 4th title.  . Very Good. Faber & Faber. First edition published by Faber and Faber in 1940. This is a very good or better copy. The wrapper is not price clipped displaying the correct price of 2/6 net. Someone has written their name (from Charles) neatly on the inside flap. The spine is toned. Otherwise there is no loss to the wrapper and it is in presentable condition. The book is also in excellent condition. A couple of pages of foxing to the front and rear otherwise clear. Stephen Spender has inscribed this copy to fellow author Laurie Lee to the title page. He has inscribed "To Laurence Lee inscribed by Stephen Spender". An early collection of poetry from Stephen Spender and very rare to be inscribed to Laurie Lee. Spender was an early supporter of Laurie Lee's work and along with Cyril Connolly his fellow editor at Horizon, they published his poems. A rare literary association.  . Very Good. In the original publisher's cloth with an elaborate gilt design and lettering to the spines. This two-volume set is in a bright and fresh, near fine condition. The binding has a trivial amount of wear to the corner tips and spine ends. A previous owner has written his name in pencil to the inside boards and added a small label with presumably a reference number for his library. Preliminary pages are uncut. All maps and illustrations present, the fold out maps have tears at the joins, which is not uncommon for this set. Stanley's account of his Emin Pasha relief expedition. It would be an ill-fated journey that would tarnish Stanley's name due to the behaviour of Europeans that were part of his team, and due to many lost lives.
