A retelling of some of Hans Christian Andersen classic fairy tales, such as 'The Fir-Tree' and 'The Little Match Girl'. Illustrated with numerous black and white as well as color plates. Measures 8" x 6" Covers have minor edge wear. Binding is loose. Previous owner inscription on front free endpaper. Minor toning due to age.

New York: McLoughin Brothers, 1873. 24 pp (including wrappers) The title page states The Life of General Putnam'. "The book tells the embellished story of the life of General Israel Putnam, starting as a young boy who slaughters a wolf, and his time in service during the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. There are six full page colored illustrations, rich in detail and color. The author is Paul Pryor, who is under the pseudonym of American writer E.T. Taggard. A part of Uncle Sam's Big Picture Series. Measures 10 1/2" x 9" Cover is mostly fully detached. The binding is loose by intact, and one page is fully detached. Edge wear. Soiling and toning to interior pages. The last few pages have foxing.

A number of pages have been cut out of this journal, it is unclear if those pages contained penmanship mistakes or they were removed for an other reason. The content appears complete.. An 1889 sewing sample book belong to a Marion Taylor of Newark, NJ. It includes both the actual hand-stitched works and a narrative on the individual steps for a variety of sewing techniques entitled: Hemmed Patching, Flannel Patch, Gathering, Securing Gathering to Band, French Corset Cover, Felled Patch, Material Needed, Hem Stitching, and Darned Patch. Ngoimani, DR Congo: Ngoi-Mani Mission, 1932. General wear. Crease folds with separations along the folds.. The annual report of the women's work being done at the Ngoi-Mani Mission, which was located in a small valley by the name of Ngoimani just north of a town called Mwanza in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It should be noted that in 1932 it was known as Belgian Congo, as it was a colony of Belgium, and is referred to as such on the item. The mission was a definitely Christian mission, although it is unclear what denomination it was. This report reads like a letter from missionary Marjorie Taylor, as she provides updates on what has occur since her last annual report. Beyond the mission in Ngoimani, she would also travel to several other towns in the area evangelizing. The towns specifically mentioned in this report are: Kabwe, Kazadi, Kisula, and Songe. This was a proposed development between Eastern Avenue on the north and Bunker Road on the south, It also included McKinley Circle. The narrative describes how it is some of the only vacant land available in the District of Columbia and would provide for property improvement and beautification paid for by the US Government and no assessments for street paving. It elaborates on beautiful squares and circles and the convenience of the location. Plat printed in yellow and green. The reverse is an inventory of the properties including the lot number, square footage, price per square foot and total cost of the land. Terms: 10% discount for cash, $10 down and $10 per month. Oshkosh, Wisconsin: The Globe Printing Co, 1914. Fine. Extremities rubbed.. A charismatic assemblage of candid photographs documenting the lives of ordinary individuals in Oskkosh, Wisconsin, in 1914. The project was spearheaded by news boys at the OshKosh Northwestern, and includes over twenty (20)photographs by Edgar W. Viall. Important buildings and scenes such as the Lakeside Sanitarium, the Winnebago County Fair, schools, and local residences are featured. There are also snapshots of "Dynamite at the Algoma Bridge" and a small child captioned "Alice Oshkosh, Great Grand Daughter of Chief Oshkosh". However, the most charming photos are those in which candids of townspeople are sliced together to give a flavor of what walking down the city streets in 1914 is like. There are also images from photographs throughout of areas like the dining room, the living spaces, and the sleeping place. A circular that was distributed by the New York Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, and its full title is: "Circular of President and Directors of the Institution for the Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb and the Petition to the Mayor, Aldermen and Commonalty of the City of New York with their Favorable Report and Patronage, &c." It's purpose is to promote and inform the citizens of New York, of both its needs and what had already been done for the school by its Board of Directors and the New York City Legislator. Not a public appeal for donation, but encourages generosity. United States, 1860. Fine; some light marginal browning.. A curious optical illusion puzzle in two parts: on the recto, a warped image; on the verso, a tongue-in-cheek riddle in verse. To solve, the viewer must either glean the answer from the riddle's clues or view the image from a specific angle to reveal the image which, in this case, appears to be a well-known Civil War figure. (We suspect the card must be bent a certain way to reveal the image, but have not tried that method for obvious reasons.) The riddle has been signed "Themis". Printed on card (4.5" by 3.25").

Shenandoah, IA: Corn Husking Supplies, 7-Oct-07. General wear. Letter fold.. A receipt from Corn Husking Supplies in Shenandoah, IA on the company's official billhead. Corn Husking Supplies was owned by R. N. Thomas selling a variety of tools and supplies necessary for corn husking. A large portion of the tools he provided were designed and patented by him. The billhead was printed on carbon paper, and this item is the yellow bottom sheet carbon copy. At the top of the billhead are two wonderfully detailed black and white illustrations. Each is of a hand holding a different tool used in corn husking. The two tools pictured are from R. N. Thomas patented designs: Adjustable Twin Spur Husker No. 3, and Scientific Husker No. 1. The billhead is a preprinted form with blanks for quantity and price. The receipt is for an order bought by F. C. Massey of Osborn, OH, on October 7, 1907, and it was paid for on April 26,1908. Tells the story of the first tea party on Nantucket in 1745 when Cousin Nate Wenworth returned from his voyage to China and had brought home some green tea. The book is essentially one long letter written by Ruth Starbuck Wentworth to her her mother. Each text page has a green ornamental border. The tittle-page and first page of each chapter is illuminated in gold and with color illustrations. There are also color illustrations of the activities described in the letter. Between the illuminations and the illustrations, there 25 color plates in the book. There is minimal cover wear, with an inscription on the inside front cover, dated Thanksgiving 1907. The first gathering has separated from the binding. Light foxing on select pages, and a few intact tears, none of which effect either the text or drawings. Measures 10" x 7 3/4

Shown in demeaning caricature often riding children's toys. Two series of six (6) cards. The first is by "Kash" (Cassius Marcellus Coolidge) that includes Jay Gould riding a dragon headed Western Union pole, Bob Ingersol riding an inflatable dragon captioned Infidelity, PT Barnum riding a circus train led by an elephant, Henry Bergh riding a hobby horse and B.F. Butler riding a stick pony with a ram's head captioned Presidential Ram and finally W.H. Vanderbilt riding a toy train captioned NYC.
