New York, The Ticker Publishing Company, 1919. . Third edition ('Latest Edition'); 12mo (17 x 12 cm); publisher's limp blue cloth, lettered in gilt to upper cover, front joint partly cracked but holding, faint staining to upper margin of first ff.; 177, [1]pp. stock23 The first work on tape reading, and arguably the earliest and most important work on market dynamics in general. Published by the leading proponent of technical analysis, Richard Wyckoff (1873-1934), under the pseudonym 'Rollo Tape'. The book proposed that the 'market momentarily indicates its own future' on the ticker tape used to communicate key information such as price, volume, and size to brokerage firms. 'One cannot become a Tape Reader by giving the ticker absent treatment; nor by running into his broker's office after lunch, or seeing "how the market closed" from his evening newspaper... He should spend twenty-seven hours a week at the ticker, and many more hours away from it studying his mistakes and finding the "why" of his…

Over the course of his career in painting, printmaking, and etching, Antoni TÃ pies has created his own lexicon of symbols and marks to help communicate the broad range of influences in his work including, most significantly, his Catalan roots, as well as his involvement with the Parisian intellectual scene of the 1950s, meeting exponents of Art informel like Jean Fautrier and Jean Dubuffet. TÃ pies's abstract paintings are made with expressive blends of impasto, gestural brush strokes, often backwards hand-written script, and common materials such as soil and marble dust. Description:
London, Privately Printed [?Leonard Smithers], 1897. . First edition, [?]second issue, number 207 of 250 copies; 2 vols, large 8vo; frontispieces, publisher's autograph limitation noted to verso of first half-title, some foxing to title and early leaves; publisher's royal blue cloth decorated in gilt, partly uncut, spines very slightly dulled, but overall fine copies. Comparing this with certain other publications of the time, such as The Life and Times of Madame du Barry, and given the format of the stated limitation, it seems certain that this work was published by Leonard Smithers (purple ink, as with Beardsley's Lysistrata). In addition, both title-pages are cancels, suggesting perhaps it was originally to be issued with titles giving the Smithers imprint. A near fine pair; uncommon.
