Description:
This is volume five of Thomas Babington Macaulay's five volume History of England. Macaulay (1800-1859) was a Whig politician who began writing his five volume history after stepping back from politics.
The five volumes cover English history beginning in 1688 and ending in 1702. The approach to history taken in his work is reflective of a particular interpretation of English history, of which Macaulay was considered one of the founders, and reflects Whig attitudes of the time.
This fifth volume was published posthumously after having been edited by Macaulay's sister Hannah. It begins from the accession of James I and ends in 1702 with the death of William III.
This copy is in poor condition, with significant discolouration to the front cover and spine. There is some cracking to the front hinge and some tearing to the front flyleaf. Internally, the text is in excellent condition and is entirely legible.
