Written in anticipation of the 1856 election wherer Fremont was nominated for President...so some lengthy glorifications, discussions of his court martial, and his arrest in England on some unpaid debt (not really his!), etc.
Interesting read for discussions of the equipment, the mules, wagons, guns, planning, etc. Three expeditions under the auspices of the U.S., two more later.
