A very neat blue ink Christmas gift inscription, Xmas 1925 'To Bella' to the front endpaper. Otherwise a near fine or fine copy. The jacket has not been price-clipped. It has a small chip to the middle of the rear panel - virtually no loss of text, some peripheral rubbing with several small or tiny chips to the peripheries and a little spotting (or small circular stains) and dust soiling. Several short tears to the margins of the jacket have been expertly repaired. A very good, clean, tight copy of a charming children's Christmas book.

The first is a newsheet 'From the Salonica Army wishing you a Happy New Year and Hoping to see you soon' large 8vo. in size and in good or good plus condition. Dated 1918. It quotes the Bishop of London who wrote to the Times from Sofia on Oct. 24, 1918. Including the front and rear cover it is four pages in length (unpaginated). The rear page gives a detailed diary of 'our offensive' with all military hostilities listed on each day from Sept. 15, 1918 until the cease of all military hostilities (the end of the war) on Sept. 30 at 12 noon - in all 16 different enteries. This small newsheet has been folded into thirds and there is a chip with associated burn mark (with the loss of one short typed word) to the upper horizontal crease affecting all four pages. Some probably insect damage that appears as light rubbing to head and tail of front board and similarly to rear board with a little soiling. Head and tail of spine and several corners a little bumped (two corners bumped). Several page corners have been turned including the plate entittled 'the enchanted apple-tree. Set in Swift at The Folio Society and printed on thin opaque paper at Druckerei C.H. Beck, Nordlingen, Germany. Quarter bound in brown buckram by Lachenmaier, Reutlingen, Germany with blocked cloth sides. The Bible is in near fine condition. There are several creases running across the top corner of one leaf - possibly a flaw in production as otherwise the Bible appears unread. The slipcase has some light shelf soil marks to it. A lovely Folio Society Bible.
