The Colombian government forced Archbishop Manuel José Mosquera into exile in 1852 because of his vehement opposition to a series of laws he felt to be government encroachments on his authority over benefices and "internal" church administrative matters. This is his publication while in exile in Paris of a letter of support he received from the clergy of Chile, along with his response to them. OCLC locates five copies.

Minor foxing to first few leaves, text occasionally lightly toned. Unique presentation copy of the first Cuban legal guide, specially bound and presented by the author to the Captain General of Cuba, D. Boston & Laramie: Isaac Van Horn & Co, 1900. Very good.. [146]pp. Large quarto. Original tan cloth, cover stamped in gilt. Light wear, corners a bit bumped, first signature loosening. Minor soiling to text, but generally quite clean internally. A wonderful and elaborate promotional work for Laramie, Wyoming, courtesy of the Van Horn-Miller Co-operative Trust. Extensively illustrated with half-tones, the book extols the virtue of Laramie and the surrounding area, depicting city streets, mining operations, ranches, prominent citizens, timber lands, and much more. Also includes a map of the railroad lines in the area. Despite this lavish production -- or perhaps because of it -- Van Horn declared bankruptcy in 1913, with liabilities in excess of $750,000.

[Venezuela], 1938. Very good.. 97 silver gelatin photographs measuring 6.75 x 4.5 and 5.5 x 3.5 inches. Oblong quarto. Original red half cloth and boards, manuscript label on front cover. Photos affixed at corners to thin paper leaves. Photo captions printed on versos of images, visible through mounting leaf. An interesting album, depicting the construction of a power plant in Pueblo Viejo, Venezuela, accomplished by the J.G. White Engineering Corp of New York, whose stamp appears on the back of each photograph, along with a description of the image and an image number. Pueblo Viejo is on the northern border of Venezuela, near the Caribbean Sea. The Venezuelan Oil Concession was originally a British firm, but by the 1920s the majority of the company stock was owned by Royal Dutch Shell. Contemporary ownership inscription and bookseller's ink stamp on title page; same owner's ink stamps on two leaves of text. Light tanning and foxing. Unusual printing, privately commissioned, of a late 19th-century thesis on the importance of eloquence by a university student, Agustin Verdugo, in the literature department. Interesting as an example of private, scholarly printing in Mexico during the 1880s, bordering on a fine press-like production. OCLC locates one other copy, at the BNM.

Lust wear and dust soiling to wraps; light tanning internally. Rare, extremely detailed study by the Colombian Ministry of Agriculture to promote the guinea pig as a low-cost and sustainable source of meat. The whole is profusely illustrated with numerous photographs of guinea pig husbandry in action and contains many recipes and advices for the butchering and preparation of these cute but delicious rodents. At the time of these study, guinea pig was an extremely popular meat in several other South American countries, but in Colombia was consumed almost exclusively by the people of Nariño, on the border with Ecuador, where street vendors of roasted cuy are still quite common. Contemporary spiral bound pictorial green textured paper-covered boards illustrated with an outline map and stamped "Memory of South Viet-Nam." Edges somewhat scuffed, boards lightly soiled. Occasional mild fading to some pictures. A unique collection of photographs and ephemera capturing the exploits of a young American Airman in Vietnam named Michael L. Beeman. Hailing from Mount Vernon, Ohio, Beeman trained at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and then served with the United States Air Force's 37th Security Police United in Phu Cat, Vietnam beginning in 1968. A newspaper clipping included here and describing Beeman's service is dated in manuscript "June 6-69." A scarce entry in the annual proceedings of the famed Anti-Horse Thief Association, who met in Newton, Kansas on October 5, 1911. The work includes the organization's National Constitution, as well as the "official proceedings" for the annual meeting (also including the text of the President's Annual Address), and a long section listing the membership in its "Official Roster" divided into the organization's various divisions: Kansas, Indian Territory, Western Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois. The work was published by the association's headquarters in St. Paul, Kansas, a tiny town about a hundred miles due east of Wichita. Inscribed by the author on the half title. Minor wear and soiling. Report on new artillery pieces invented for use in the mountains, with a folding plate illustrating a gun carriage. The author, Macario Villegas, was a colonel in the Mexican army. He has inscribed the half title: "Recibi de la Imprenta del Gobierno quinientos ejemplares de esta memoria cientifica. Mexico Enero 31 de 1877. Macario Villegas. Principal Vale." Rare. Two copies located in OCLC, at the national libraries of Mexico and Spain.

Book disbound, lacking title page and first text leaf, some gatherings and leaves loose or detached. Some age toning to manuscript leaves. A unique manuscript family genealogy for the Worrell family of Virginia as recorded by several hands in the margins and blank portions of two middle pages and on a few terminal and end leaves of a contemporary copy of a sammelband of two early American imprints -- The Family Adviser (1793) and John Wesley's Primitive Physic (1795, revised and corrected) and on a single folded sheet folded and laid into the book. The entries within the book detail the births of the children of Josiah and Alice Worrell, and sometimes their in-laws.
