Description:
[N.p., likely Wyoming, 1880. About very good.. Albumen photograph, 22 x 18 inches. Mat ghosting to edges, verso toned from previous matting and framing. Framed. A gorgeous large-format photograph commonly called the Great Falls of the Yellowstone or Lower Falls of the Yellowstone. The image was likely taken by William Henry Jackson, as it bears the most resemblance to his photograph of the same name taken while part of Hayden's 1871 U.S. Geological Survey of the Territories for the Department of the Interior. The present image is taken slightly closer to the Falls than Jackson's most common image, but bears the hallmarks of Jackson's image much more closely than Jay Haynes's similar images taken from about the same vantage point. The image captures the waterfalls of the Yellowstone River flowing into a canyon inside Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. A wonderful display piece featuring one of the most famous scenes at Yellowstone.

Ink inscription in Japanese on rear cover. Faint dampstain to edges of outer leaves. The first postwar directory and yearbook published in 1948 by the Hokubei Shinposha, a New York Japanese-language newspaper. The work is illustrated with a section of halftone photograph reproductions that depict patriotic activities conducted by Japanese New Yorkers during the Second World War. Many images show Japanese Americans who were resettled on the East Coast, Nisei soldiers on leave, celebrations marking the return of the all-Japanese 442nd infantry battalion, and more. Others highlight Nisei politicians, community leaders, artists, business people, and other prominent Japanese-American figures in New York. The bulk of the work is devoted to a bilingual Who's Who of Japanese residents and organizations in New York, tri-state… Read More

Description:
[Dawson City, 1901. Very good.. Five photographs, each measuring 11 x 14 inches, forming an 11 x 70 inch panoramic view of Dawson City. Each photograph with different gradations of toning (the central panel with excellent contrast, the rest with varying degrees of fading), minor wear. A substantial turn-of-the-century panoramic photograph of Dawson City, in five sheets, viewed from the west side of the Yukon River. The photograph was produced by H.J. Goetzman, who worked as a commercial photographer in the Yukon from 1897 until 1904, recording the scenery, life and activity of the route to the gold fields through Alaska and Canada, Dyea, the Chilkoot Trail, White Pass Canyon, Bennett, Dawson, and the Klondike gold fields. He ran Goetzman's Photographic Studio in Dawson from 1898 to 1904. The Yukon Archives holds another example of this set, and their catalog record offers the following details on the content: "The panorama stretches from north of Dawson to south of the Klondike River. Many streets,… Read More
