Description:
Paris: Editions du Jardin des Modes, 1934. First (?). Illustrated paper-covered boards. Good-. This is considered one of the scarcest Babar titles, published after the first three Babar books, and presented as a basic alphabet book for young children. I appears to compare favorably with other available 1st editions, but not being expert in children's books, I am not able to guarantee it is a true first. It is therefore priced accordingly.  However, what certain is that this particular copy is from the personal library of Maurice Sendak, the famous American children's author, who died in 2012. Sendak, who did not typically identify his books with bookplates or signatures, bequeathed many of the books to the Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia. The Museum subsequently identified a number of books that it decided to sell. This set is accompanied by a certification from the auctioneer to attest that it was sold on behalf of the Rosenbach Museum, thereby confirming the Sendak provenance. The…

New York: Creative Age Press, 1947. First. Hardcover. Very Good. The title pretty much says it all. This is a large compendium of all things Lincoln. This copy is very good in black cloth with gilt titles on the spine and a gilt illustration on the front cover. Ex-library, but the only indications are the call number at the bottom of the spine, an embossed library stamp on the bottom of the title page and a small ink stamp and call number at the bottom of the dedication page. No other marks at all. The binding is scuffed, with minor fraying, particularly at the spine ends, but still quite sound. Gilt is somewhat faded. Text is age toned, but otherwise clean. .

Glasgow: Robert and Andrew Foulis for Edward and Charles Dilly, 1768. First. Very Good. xxi, [3], 382 pp Folding copper-engraved map (8vo) 20x12 cm (8x4¾"), period full calf, raised bands, morocco lettering piece Some rubbing to spine and extremities, joints tender, minor wear to covers, small repair to rear cover; short stub tear to map, else very good or better, an attractive copy This was the first work to bring Boswell fame; it also brought the cause of Corsican independence, fought for under the handsome and impressive General Paoli, to international attention Boswell's urgent calls for support and the romanticized account of Paoli as lionized father figure nearly brought England into war with France over Corsica Eventually the struggle for independence was lost, and Paoli fled to England, where he enjoyed widespread adulation Even for an 18th century work, there are a significant number of variations for this first edition, which may occur in various combinations Following the general…

Description:
Chapel Hill, NC: The University of North Carolina Press, 1994. 4th paperback printing. Softcover. Near fine. From the publisher: "About the book: An intellectual dialogue of the highest plane achieved in America, the correspondence between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson spanned half a century and embraced government, philosophy, religion, quotidiana, and family griefs and joys. First meeting as delegates to the Continental Congress in 1775, they initiated correspondence in 1777, negotiated jointly as ministers in Europe in the 1780s, and served the early Republic--each, ultimately, in its highest office. At Jefferson's defeat of Adams for the presidency in 1800, they became estranged, and the correspondence lapses from 1801 to 1812, then is renewed until the death of both in 1826, fifty years to the day after the Declaration of Independence. Lester J. Cappon's edition, first published in 1959 in two volumes, provides the complete correspondence between these two men and includes the correspondence…
