First edition and first printing , illustrated with 19 wood engravings by John Farleigh (4 are full page).

Description:
First edition of Josef Frank's (1885–1967) most important theoretical work on architecture.
Description: Paper covered boards with original dust jacket, lettered in black. Octavo: 19 × 13 cm; pp. viii, 190.
Condition: Dust jacket torn, a longer tear to base of front cover (c. 7 cm), a major loss on the back cover (c. 5 × 2 cm). Binding tight and intact. A small water stain on the first 6 leaves. Otherwise clean and very well preserved.
Notes: Along with Adolf Loos and Josef Hoffmann, Frank was one of the most important protagonists of Viennese Modernism. Frank's critical and polemical texts, which accompanied the development of architecture in Austria, cover the subjects of architecture, housing and urban planning. Frank is rightly regarded as a major critic of functionalism. To the end, he sought to reveal the layers of meaning of modernism and to regain some of the freedom it had lost through its dogmatisation.
