Description:
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1922. First American edition. Small ink spot to foredge; faint offsetting to endsheets, else fine in a a very lightly faded dust jacket with just a couple of short closed tears and a bit fraying at spine ends.. 8vo, 431pp; red cloth. The third volume of a trilogy by Cournos, a neglected modernist who was a friend and peer to his better-known contemporaries James Joyce, Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot et al. This edition is exceedingly scarce in the original dust jacket, which features a blurb written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was the first of only five that Fitzgerald provided to publishers (Bruccoli G1) appearing here at about the same time as his novel The Beautiful and Damned.

New York: Whittlesey House, 1948. First edition. Heavy-handed pencil inscription erased from front fly, covers rubbed; good copy in a nice supplied dust jacket, price-clipped.. 8vo, 224pp; red cloth. An unremarkable copy of the Yankee Clipper's instructional guide to the game of baseball, yet distinguished by the presence, loosely inserted, of a small slip of paper to which is affixed a rare example of DiMaggio's autograph from the 1940s. DiMaggio's ink signature is mounted between clipped photos of the great Yankee; along the bottom edge the original owner has written: "Joe DiMaggio -BB Player - given me - Nov. 1941." On the other side of the paper are pencil autographs of four members of the 1941 St. Louis Cardinals: pitchers Ira Hutchinson and Sam Nahem, shortstop Marty Marion, and second baseman Eddie Lake, all noted as having been obtained at a 1941 game between the Cardinals and the Brooklyn Dodgers -- (why couldn't he have gotten Stan Musial?). In his later years, when his signature had…

Paris: La Cooperative Generale du Cinema Francais/Cine-Union, 1946. Card is a bit wrinkled and marked; booklet evenly toned, but essentially fine.. Program is a 16pp booklet, approx. 5-1/4 X 8 in.; invitation card is on heavy blue paper, approx. 4 X 5-1/2 in., printed on both sides. Invitation and program for the premiere of this important postwar French feature. "The Battle of the Rails" was a triumphant production depicting heroes of the French resistance among French rail workers. The film was made with support from the "Cheminots de France" (the French rail system) and included rail workers in the cast. A highlight of the dramatic action was the actual derailment of a train, something undertaken under tremendous risk, with careful planning, and by necessity in a single take. The film won the international jury prize at the Cannes festival in 1946 and best director honors for Clément. The bulk of the sixteen-page booklet is an essay by André Delage, who served as technical consultant for the…
