Greenwich, Connecticut: Gold Medal Books, 1960. 127 pages. Paperback original--first printing of the first edition. "Good girl" cover art by famed illustrator Robert McGinnis. The story is rather typical Gil Brewer fare: fifties noir meets sixties sleaze. But Brewer also aspired to something greater as in the following 3 haiku-like lines describing a sexual encounter: "She moaned and she moaned. After a while they lay still. The house waited." The obviously unread book is clean and tight, with perhaps a hint of spinecock, faintly toned pages, a small area of color fading on the rear cover, and an occasional small spot of foxing. Oakland, California: Magic Limited, 1946. Two 3-ring binders containing all 86 original issues of The Bat, all 10 issues of Trickster Monthly and the July 1946 Unconventional Report. The Bat was a magic magazine, published from 1943 through 1951, containing close-up and stage effects of every kind. It contained contributions from many prominent magicians of the area including Charlie Miller, Dr. Jaks, Bert Allerton, Charles Jordan, Frank Chapman and T. Page Wright,. Trickster monthly, first published in 1946, was also produced by Lloyd James for the magic community to keep fellow magicians up to date with current events in the magic world. Pages have some toning and the binders have some sunning to the spine as well as some shelfwear. Second volume binder has some soiling on the front cover. Virginia: Unknown Publisher, 1962. 20 pages. Pamphlet that is a facsimile reprint of the rare original published by Johns & Goolsby, Steam Printers in Richmond in 1880. This relatively scarce facsimile reprint was published circa 1962 as part of the centennial commemoration of the battle at Williamsburg, but neither date nor publisher is noted. The author was a field officer in the 24th Virginia Regiment, which suffered 189 casualties among its 740 men during the battle. It is a noir novel sometimes called his "revenge novel" because the primary female character is based on the wife who had just left him. The portrait of her is unflattering, but she is the prototype for the women in his later paperback noir mysteries. The book was sent to police departments around the United States for distribution. This copy was distributed by the Watertown, Connecticut Police Department and includes that information on the front cover. In addition to the 31 pages of illustrated text, thare is a letter from the Watertown Chief of Police and 12 pages of ads for local businesses. From 1952 until 1964 she was married to famed western artist Ace Powell; during part of that time she signed her works as Nancy McLaughlin Powell.
