Heimann, who has penned kitsch-focused design monographs including Sins of the City: The Real Los Angeles Noir; May I Take Your Order?: American Menu Design 1920–1960; and Close Cover Before Striking: The Golden Age of Matchbook Art, joins with Georges to explore folk commercialism at the outer edge of the New World. 139 pp.

This one is a real oddity: The text block is the 1977 Manor Books edition of Candy by M (the pen name of Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg) and the cover is the 1986 Avon edition of Memoirs Found in a Bathtub by Stanislaw Lem. The title page is missing; however, the ISBN from Candy has offset onto its epigraph page. Not sure how this ended up happening: possibly an inter-publisher agreement that allowed the reader to disguise the smutty novel? There is some creasing to the spine, as well as some general shelf-wear. Also, two former seller stamps (one blacked out) to the epigraph page. 185 pp. Fiction.

Beckett was 'discovered' by Grove's Barney Rosset in 1952 when the publisher read an essay called 'Samuel Beckett: An Introduction', written by a young translator named Richard Seaver, who in passing had seen copies of Molloy and Malone, yet to be published in English, displayed in the Paris window of Éditions de Minuit. 88 pp. Theater.

In his intro to this fascinating mediumship study, John C. Wilson writes, 'Confronted by a semi-literate housewife spouting forth a series of astonishing works of literature dictated to her by a seventeenth-century spirit, the American public first gapes and gawks and then wipes the whole thing out of its mind.' That 'semi-literate housewife' was Pearl Curran, who in 1912, while experimenting with a ouija board, began a decades-long series of communications with a spirit named Patience Worth, who claimed to have lived from 1649 to 1694 ('Good friends, let us be merrie,' she greeted Curran.
