Description:
First American edition of Francis' first novel (preceded by a book about horse racing). Book is in excellent condition, clean and tight. Jacket is worn, rubbed and price-clipped, with spine lettering unevenly faded -- see pictures. The black printing on the jacket and the three-[iece binding contribute to this jacket tending to look pretty ratty over time. A reasonable copy for a collector -- most would want a finer jacket, but for that you can easily double the price.

Description:
How does one list a problematic book?I am listing this because it's got a very nice binding: full vellum, with vellum endpapers, gold tooling and a nice leather label on the spine. The name of the bindery, Sammarco, is on the page between the cover and the half-title. The front binding lis split. This is an ex-library copy from the University of San Francisco (I checked: they didn't want it back when I asked). Several pages have their name punched through the sheets. This copy has the original covers and spine bound in. Text is in Italian. It's a very nice artifact. It represents a reality in the world's history. We need not to lose our history. More pictures available on request. All proceeds from this sale will go to Docore Without Borders (Medecines sans Frontiers). We need to remember; we need to move forward.

Description:
Garden City: Doubleday, 1965. First edition thus. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. First collected edition of these two novels, and the first US hardback edition of either of them. From the time when Ballard was still a secret known mostly to science fiction fans. Both the trade and the book club editions on this book are moderately scarce -- the trade scarcer and more desirable, of course. Clipped dustjacket with several closed tears, the longest about 5cm at the head of the spine; now in a protector to prevent further damage. The book is clean, with slight flaking of the gold on the spine title. A difficult title to find for the Ballard completist.
