Very good. One leaf, folded once into 4 printed pages with each page approximately 6 5/8" x 10 1/4". The Democratic Party issued this leaflet during the 1876 Presidential campaign, declaring the "administration of the Federal Government to be in urgent need of immediate Reform" after 11 years of Republican control following the Civil War. It alleged corruption, self dealing, and misguided policies on immigration, taxation, and currency matters. A few tiny chips along the edges with no effect on text.

Salem: John W. Archer, 1836. Softcover. Good. 12mo. pamphlet (approximately 4 5/8" x 7 1/2"), stitched as issued. 28pp. with original printed paper wrappers. Rev. George Cheever (1807 - 1890) was a minister and prolific author, who did not shy away from controversy. As an early advocate for the temperance movement, he published a pro-temperance allegory in a local Salem, Massachusetts newspaper entitled "Inquire at Amos Giles' Distillery" which caused such an uproar that it ultimately led to his trial for libel and a month in jail. This pamphlet represents Cheever's defense of his newspaper article and a plea for leniency. Scattered foxing to text. Some stains on wrappers with chipping to spine and one corner. Contemporary owner's signature ("Silas Stone") at the top of front wrapper. Overall, about a good copy.

Pictorial printed paper wrappers with advertisements. Manufacturer, publisher and bookseller, J. L. Hammett issued profusely illustrated trade catalogs of school supplies, furniture, science equipment, globes and printed materials during the 1870's. This particular catalog was first issued in 1872 and then re-issued for 1874 with a new pictorial wrapper. The 1872 catalog is listed in Romaine and Worldcat but not the updated 1874 issuance. Uncommon. "Contemporary owner's signature on front wrapper along with one vertical crease mark, light soiling and spine wear. Overall a very good + copy.

Engraved portrait with tissue guard, xxiv, 621 pp. Ex-library with bookplate and handstamp on the front pastedown. The title page indicates this was printed by subscription with the introductory matter listing 84 individuals as subscribers. The Muggletonians were a sect founded by Lodowicke Muggleton and by Muggleton's cousin, John Reeve in the mid-17th century. Both founders were subsequently imprisioned for blasphemy in 1653. Nevertheless, their doctrines attracted a number of followers, and the sect did not disappear until the mid-19th century. A clean, bright, unsophisticated copy.

Masthead for most issues includes a woodcut illustration depicting the destruction of the Vatican and Rome by storm and earthquake. Contemporary limp, heavy paper wrappers, stitched. Samuel Smith was a disgruntled Roman Catholic priest, who left the church and became a Protestant minister. He went on to edit an anti-Catholic weekly, entitled The Downfall of Babylon, which was distributed in New York City and Philadelphia during the 1830's. The periodical included such articles as "Narrative of the Captivity and Sufferings of An American Among the Roman Priests of Cuba" and "On the Romish Hierarchy. Small broadsheet (8. 5 cm x 16 cm), printed on pale green paper with decorated border in green and black. This broadsheet encourages the adoption of the "Keeley system" for treating drunkenness. Keeley was one of the first to treat drinking as a disease and not a moral statement. This item is not in OCLC and is clearly a very early Keeley item. Rare. Small dampstain in lower left corner.
