A catalogue of the Armand Hammer Daumier collection, exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, March 20 - June 3, 1979. The bulk of the material, including virtually all the lithographs, was assembled by George Longstreet, whose collection was purchased by Hammer as a promised gift to the LACMA that never materialized. Subsequently Hammer acquired nineteen bronzes, an important oil, numerous woodcuts and other works. During the Daumier centennial year much of the collection was also exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. Freitag 2083.

Pennsylvania Museum of Art, 1937. First. Softcover. A generally sound copy, but with spine edge wear. 8vo, stiff wrappers. 55 pp of text, 52 illustrations + 16 text figures. Catalogue of a major exhibition which contained 15 oils, 39 drawings and watercolors, a selection of six bronze busts of parlementarians and a bronce cast of Ratapoil, was well as 148 lithographs, three lithographic stones and various books and documents. The essay by Roger-Marx is in French; perhaps it was not received in time to be adequately translated. Uncommon.

Edizioni Poldi Pezzoli, 1961. First. Softcover. Very good. 8vo, pictorail wrappers over stiff cardboard. Xxxiv+201 pp, 191 illustrations (2 in color), bibliography, concordance. Published in a numbered edition of 2,000 copies. A study of the 37 bronzes (35 legislators, Ratapoil and a self-protrait), relating them, wherever possible to the artist's enormous output of prints. Where known, brief biographies of the legislators are given. For the six unknown legislators it is perhaps sufficient to say that they were the subjects of bustcaricaturess by the greatest artist of the 19th century. An essential catalog for those with a reading knowledge of Italian and still useful for those without.

National Gallery of Canada, 1999. First. Hardcover. Very good, no dust jacket. Lg. 4to, paper-covered boards. 599 pp, 421 illustrations (263 in color) plus 194 text figures, chronology, bibliography, index. One of the most comprehensive and satisfying exhibitions ever mounted for an artist of such stature, with venues in Ottawa, Paris and at the Phillips Collection, Washington, DC (February 19 - May 14, 2000). The publisher of this massive catalog has unfortunately economized on the binding, which is likely to deteriorate over time.
