This is a beautiful little book with such extraordinary illustrations. The jacket has 2 one inch tears. One on the top left front and one on the top, left back. There is a name plate stamp on the left inside cover. There are some dirt smudges on the jacket. The edges of the hardcover book is slightly worn in places. The colors are vivid and the inside pages are clean. This is the first American edition.The story is about a Chinese emperor who tells the real nightingale to leave for a mechanical nightingale. The real bird later returns when the emperor is about to die.
